Wow! I am happy you are finally getting your refund but it is scary how easy it was for someone to take your identity. Are they doing anything to catch that person?
There's nothing that anyone could do - I filed a report with the Consumer Board of Trade, put fraud alerts at the 3 credit filing agencies, and went to my local precinct (out of their jurisdiction.)
Apparently this stuff happens all the time -- a "company" will get a bunch of SS numbers and partial names...and will sell it to (in my case) someone trying to stay and work in the country and to prove that they're US Citizens. By the time the government/FBI (Fraud Unit) catches up to it, the person has left the country, the company is gone, and they're off doing it somewhere else.

I'm glad they worked it out, its weird because something very similar happened to my cousin. They filed for her taxes using fake documents and they also used an address in CT. She thinks that they got the information from her mortgage, so who knows if they got the info from your marriage. Its unbelievable how they get this private info.
