Is 12 days prior too early for a birthday party?

I want to reserve our date at the carousel but we are waffling between two, Oct 15 and Oct 8.

dh says 8 will make the odds slighter better weather wise...but I feel like it will be weird for Luce to celebrate twice with 12 days in between. Chat Icon

does it being so far away make it any less "authentic" Chat Icon

I am loca..we all know this. Chat Icon

tell me what you think.

oh, I just left a message to see about rain dates....have you ever done a party with a rain date?

It's ok to celebrate his birthday early. You're going to celebrate the whole month anyway. You know you will! Chat Icon Chat Icon

And yes, you had this issue last year. And someone wrote an excellent response about how you were celebrating his "birth" and that every day after that day is worth celebrating, so the day you actually choose to have a party is a moot point. Or something like that.

ETA: My answer is still the same. Having the party earlier doesn't lose it's authenticity.

12 days is not too early. I did Tylers on Oct 1st last year (bday is Oct 15th)

Also - I did a raindate for the following day on the invite

Re: Is 12 days prior too early for a birthday party?

I'd pick the date that is closer to the actual birthday.

I had a bday party for DS 2.5 weeks early but that was because I was expecting a baby the week of DS's birthday.

this is true...and I can use the lag time in between the dates as an excuse...wouldn't want to confuse poor Luce now, would I. Chat Icon Chat Icon

hmmm...can I ask how you handled the vendors or what their policy was? and what made you pick the next day over the following weekend?

thanks

I was cooking most of the stuff myself, and anything that I wasn't cooking (fried chicken, ribs) could have been heated the next day.

The tent guy wasn't coming to get the tables and chairs until Monday so I still would have had them.

I would have told the cakegirl to hold the cake till the following day (or picked it up if need be)

The only issue was going to be the Petting Zoo in case they were booked with parties that day but they were even willing to work with me to at least send some animals here.

I think the Ent. company also said they would fit me in somehow the following day.

ETA: I picked the next day because of the table and chairs rentals. I also think we had something that following weekend, I just can't remember what it was right now.

While I don't think 12 days is too early, I would probably do it the 15th if it was me. I don't think the 1 week is going to make a real difference. But then again, DD has only had 1 birthday party so far...and it was indoors Chat Icon

On a sidenote, I'm excited you're doing the carousel party! You must tell me how it is. DD just had her 1st experience on a carousel last week and she LOVED it!

Re: Is 12 days prior too early for a birthday party?

We did DS's 1st birthday two weeks earlier last year. He was born the night before thanksgiving so he will never have a party the weekend of his birthday. I think it's fine.
