Is 2 a good age for a first trip for Disney?
We are thinking about taking DD to Disney around this time next year. Some people are telling me not to, because she's "too young" and won't remember it. I feel like DH and I will remember seeing her amazement at it, and it's not like it's going to be her only trip there. I hope to have another baby when DD is 3-4, and I'd love to take DD alone once, before waiting for both kids to be "old enough."
We would most likely be staying off property, at a timeshare, since DH's parents have lots of extra points that need to be used, and I like that idea with a little one, because we'll have a lot of space, a refrigerator, etc. We can also do Sea World, which I think is good for that age.

My DD was 2 when she went for the first time. She loved it! I say to definitely do it!
Even though she might not remember...you will def remember how excited she was when she saw her favorite characters!!!

My DS was 2 3/4 when we went and he had a blast... He definitely remembers it and talks about it now still, a year later.
I don't think 2 is too young - and they are free!
We stayed offsite as well and it was perfect. We generally did a park in the am, came back for nap and did the pool in the pm.

We took my 2 DDs to Disney in Jan. my oldest was just turning 3 and my youngest was 22mth. She had a GREAT time and still talks about the "princess castle" and Mickey. I think the age is just fine. I actually cried when I saw how excited they both were just by walking through the gates haha

I hate when people say they are to young they won't remember. They are in it NOW. That's what cameras are for. My dh always says that and we haven't gone yet, and it's killing me :). He says we need to wait until dd1 is older. I say but the you will say wait until dd2 is older and then dd1 might be to old to enjoy. I say go now and again haha.
I think I have convinced dh to go in Nov. dd is 3 and dd2 will be 8 months. DD knowns a lot of the disney characters. I can't wait to see her face. If I had my way she would be there every year haha

One of my best friends just came back from taking her 22 month old, and another friend is taking her DD (26 month old). From what I've heard, it is a perfect age.
I am planning on going in June, a week before DS turns 2. He will fly for free and go to the parks for free, so I don't see why not. I agree with a PP; don't NOT go just because they wont remember it. YOU will remember the memories you created and there will be plenty of photos to show her in the future.

It's a great age to go to Disney! At that age it's really about the experience as a family. The little ones won't remember the trip but that's what cameras are for. Seeing the look on your little one's face when they meet their favorite princess or character is something that you will never forget!
Don't NOT go just because they won't remember it. It's still building a family history and YOU will remember it forever.

Re: Is 2 a good age for a first trip for Disney?
My older DS was 18 months his first time and he loved it a million times more then I even expected. My younger DS went his first time at 6 months. Who knows if he liked it, he was still a baby. But he was able to ride just about everything his older brother went on. Then we did Animal Kingdom when they were 2 and 5. They both loved everything about it. They were both mesmerized by the shows and the character breakfast at Tuskers was an amazing time for us all.

Dd will be 2.5 and we are not a Disney family....but she squeals at anything Mickey/Minnie Mouse. It's really what I am looking forward to.

We took DS at 19 months and he loved it. His reaction to everything was well worth the $$. Your child may not remember it but they will have an amazing time and YOU will have those memories. DS asks to look at the pics to see Mickey all the time. We are going in October again and I can't wait to see his reaction again!!

For all of those who want to go so their child can experience it without a sibling (or before another one comes along). Be careful, because that was our plan and I got pregnant there! It really is a magical place!! ;)

We took both boys at 2yo. My feeling is yours, my sons will take many vacations (I hope) in their lives, some with me some without, their first Disney trip was more for DH & I. I will never forget DS1 at 22m old waiting every night to see the fireworks and clapping yelling "good job fireworks" through the whole show. Those DS1 might not remember but they are my memories. ANd hoenstly at that age, they are free! so its not that expensive. Also I felt like at that age, we just kinda went with the flow, DS didnt have an agenda of all he wanted to see and go on and do, so we really just enjoyed what we did see and didnt feel liked we missed out. ON our second trip with another family who had older kids it was much more of a checklist mentality and who wanted to see what etc. That trip was more exhausting.
We stayed this last time (ds1 is 5 ds2 turned 2 on the trip) at Sheraton Vistiana villages and we LOVED it! loved the extra space and having a kitchen so we didnt have to eat out every meal especially with a very active 2yo!
GL!

Re: Is 2 a good age for a first trip for Disney?
I guess one should not leave the house until the child is 4 or 5 because they might not remember that zoo trip, that museum, that bithday party.
Please go. They are free. There are cameras. You are making family memories. You will always remember their eyes lighting up, their dancing or clapping to mickey. It is a great time to go. Btw DD#1 went at 15 months, a month before turning 3, and a month before turning 6. DD#2 went for her 1st and 4th birthdays. Dd#1 can tell you where she met Mary poppins etc from before 3.
You will get people who say go to the beach or some other trip. If you want to go just go and have fun!

Re: Is 2 a good age for a first trip for Disney?
Thanks everyone! We decided that we're doing it. In the midst of browsing DH's parents' timeshares, they switched plans, so now we're waiting for that to be set up before we can keep looking for what we want to become available. I'm so excited to take her! She is Minnie-obsessed right now, and I want to show her some of the princess movies between now and then.
