That is early in our house. Andrew goes to bed between 9:30-10pm.

Victoria goes to bed around 9:30 - 9:45. She doesn't wake until 7:30 and sleeps all the way through now (although I expect her molars to wake her during the night now)

She wakes up with a smile on her face every morning so I haven't tried to change her schedule. She also takes a 2 - 2 1/2 hour nap every day

I think babies should be asleep by 7pm or so, but I realize it's easier said than done.

Kristina's bedtime is 6-630 latest... She did it on her own, and she wakes from 630-7 the next morning....

God help me if she stays awake later than that.... Chat Icon

I hear you! DD goes to bed at 7pm and usually sleeps until 6:45 or 7am. God help us if she stays awake past 7:15pm!

Hmm....why?

Because babies need a lot of sleep...usually at least 12 hours. Why do you ask?

Re: Is 8:30 too late for bedtime?

Kaydyn is 9 1/2 months and she goes to bed between 10-11pm....and she sleeps until 11am or so. My DH loves it b/c he gets to sleep in the morning and I like it b/c I get to spend time with her when I get home from work.

I think most people who are saying their kids go to bed later are still saying they get 12 hours of sleep.

I know my DS usually sleeps from 9pm-8am. And he takes at least 1 long nap a day, sometimes two.

I don't understand the correlation. If a baby goes to sleep at 8.30 and wakes at 8.30, it si still 12 hours....

Not in my house! My kids are in bed by 9 usually. On a rare occassion, they might be in bed by 8 (with no nap), but since they still nap every day (about 2 hours) AND they sleep until 8-8:30 in the morning, there are no issues here!

In our house, I'm lucky if they get dinner by 7. It's our schedule and it works for us. You'll never hear me complain. They get close to 12 hours at night, plus a nap!

ok. just saying 7-7 are "normal" hours...that doesn't mean that kids don't go to bed earlier or later. I think 7 is the "average" time.

Re: Is 8:30 too late for bedtime?

As long as your DC gets a good night's sleep, it can happe anytime. Cailen was going to bed at 8:30 before the time change - now he's in bed by 7:30 or 8:00, and up at 5:00AM

DS goes to bed at around 10pm. This is normal for us. He still gets the same amount of sleep as he usually wakes up around 9:30. One reason why he goes to bed that late is b/c DH was not happy with the idea of only seeing his son on weekends (which most of my friends with early bedtimes do) - many men do not get home from work by 7pm. My DS's favorite time of the day is his playtime with DaDa and I would never deprive him of this...there is no reason to! Second, DS MADE his own bedtime - in fact, I would love for him to go to bed a bit earlier (9/9:30) so he can be up earlier in the day - but, it never works. I was so excited with the clock change b/c for a few days this was working but, by staying up and playing in his crib for a good deal of time every night and every nap time and waking up during the night - DS slowly moved his bedtime back where it was. This is the time that works for his body. I suppose I should be thankful b/c when he was an infant he never wanted to sleep b/f midnight.

I don't understand why any time would be "too late" for bedtime if it works for you and DC and DC is getting enough sleep. I have friends that make comments about DS sleeping so late but, you know what, at least he sees his daddy during the week! I don't get what the big deal is! Chat Icon and I can't think of one reason why babies "SHOULD" be asleep by 7pm. The only reason you posted doesn't apply to us since DS gets the same amount of sleep Chat Icon

I usually put DD down at about 8. By about 8:30-8:45 she will be asleep.

So, no, I don't think 8:30 is too late.

I think it just all depends on the child...Alyssa goes to sleep at 7:3p0 every night and has done that since age 1. it works for her.

Nah, Nina goes to bed between 8-9:30 and sleeps till about 8 or 9. I think as long as she isn't too tired during the day, then do what works for you and her.

I think that whatever works for you is the right thing! For us, I always had Ava in bed earlier because I needed a break after working all day then coming home to take care of her all evening while hubby was at work.

DS is 4 and is in bed by 7:45-8pm. On occassion it will be a little bit later, but he is usually exhausted by then and needs it. If it's any later he would never be up for school on time. He also doesn't nap

It depends on the rest of the schedule. If your baby sleeps in the morning & you have no reason to rush out, than 8:30pm is fine.

As babies, my kids had a 7:30-8:00pm bedtime because they'd have to be dressed & out of the house by 7am.
