I think it is too young. But thats just for me and my dd. I polished her nails for the 1st time at 2 1/2 for christmas. To each his own but 9 months is little.

this is rediculus!! besides all the chemicals in the nailpolish, and babies sucking on their fingers.... what happened to letting your baby be a BABY?!?! they grow up WAY too fast... she'll have her whole life to get manis and pedis with mommy. why not start this "Tradition" at 3 years old? why rush things so much??

All the time, I think it is ridiculous but I think it would be cute if it was once and awhile.

she said that she does it every week with her ....and has done so from 7 months ...i mean this is a BABY

even so, I just am not sure why you or anyone would care about something like that

her child, if she wants to take her to get a mani/pedi, so be it

I just don't understand how and why this would concern you at all

my original post was made as a question to ask others opionions ...

not for you to start something more Chat Icon

okay....not trying to start anything more...you just seem SO shocked and I don't get that...but whatever Chat Icon

TOTALLY ridiculous, due to all of the health concerns already stated.. as is the post asking why youre concerned about it. Im assuming you posted because you wanted others opinions on the situation, not opinions on your opinion lol

Thats too much for me...Not neccesary , a bit rididculous and while others probably dont believe as I do, I think its dangerous as well.

Nail polish contains phthalates which has been shown to cause cancer in animals...and a baby's nails at that age are not yet strong and thick which means any chemicals leach into their fingers more quickly ...

I agree....I cant keep my son's fingers out of his mouth. I would be so worried about her eating the polish.

ITA with this!!!

I think that's a bit harsh. Chat Icon

The OP was just shocked by what she saw, as i would be too!!!!

I'm sorry... but that is just completely absurd! Yes i'm judging. I said it. I don't care either. Chat Icon Chat Icon

totally not my intention to be harsh...I say to each his own and live and let live

and I will say again that while I PERSONALLY would not do it, I would not be shcked to see it either...I just don't care either way, I guess Chat Icon

At first I thought you meant she brought the baby while she got a mani/pedi. To that, I would say I'm torn. I haev been tempted to bring my DD (8 months) because I have wanted one and didn't want to leave her, but haven't because I don't want her around the fumes.

I would NOT even consider for a second having my baby get a mani/pedi. I often dont even get paint on my finger nails because DD sucks on my fingers sometimes. When she is around 2 or 3, I might start bringing her and letting her get her nails done if she asks to get them done. I won't ever push it on her or just assume she wants it. I might also let her get everything but the polish until she's even older than that. I certainly won't let her get polish on a regular basis until much much much older. As a kid, for special occasions and a treat every once in awhile.

Re: Is 9 months old too young for a mani pedi with mummy ??

I personally think 9 mnths is too young but to each his own. There are however polishes I have actually seen in a children's boutique in Port Jefferson that are chemical free and "green" for babies; along with perfumes and highlighting creams for hair! I think it;s alll a bit much but have to admit I would consider it at 1 possibly. I would NEVER do it with regulare polish but it is possible this woman was using that special one.

To me, that's ridiculous. Not only are there health concerns as PPs mentioned, but what happened to letting babies be babies? I personally can't think of any reason why a 9 month old should have a manicure and pedicure.

Oh i'm totally shocked someone would do this.

I was totally shocked the other day when i was driving home from work and i saw 3 girls running (for exercise). Well the 1 girl was running while holding her 6-7 month old in her arms. That completely shocked me. Chat Icon I guess mainly because i've never seen someone do that before. Chat Icon

I tend to get shocked by things out of the ordinary. Chat Icon Like giving a 9 month old a manicure. A girl running while holding her baby (so not safe). A coworker finding out she's 4 1/2 months pregnant even though she had her tubes tied 7 years ago. It doesn't take much for me to go... Chat Icon! Chat Icon

I would also be concerned with the baby eating/biting the polish off of her nails. Also the nail polish remover, etc on her nails. I think when they're that little you'd want to keep everything as natural as possible.

Oh well different strokes for different folks!

That's absolutlely ridiculous.

Dangerous and just what is the need for that??

I agree with to each their own BUT an opinion is an opinion..and my opinion is..I would NEVER EVER dream of having this done on Megan..and yes I would be judging and shocked if I saw it myself.

I'm confused... was she also getting a mani/pedi for the 9 month old too??? Chat Icon

If not, I don't see any big deal with her taking her daughter to the nail salon while she got her mani/pedi. As long as the baby was behaving.

The only thing I don't get is why would you get a mani if you have to deal with a 9 month old? I think that she may end up messing up the mani having to hold the baby or put the baby back into the car.

no the BABY was getting the mani pedi ....the BABY

OK I'm sorry but to me that's just crazy. DD is 2 years old and I still won't take her to a nail salon bc I don't want her to breath the chemicals (nail polish, polish remover, filed nail dust, glue and whatever else is there ....) Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it's ridiculous also, and I try very hard not to be judgmental of others. But, COME ON, there are plenty of ways to bond with your 9 month old. I don't think she is being a bad parent or anything...it's just so strange! Chat Icon

I think its really funny BUT I really give kudos to the mom. Shes enjoying her baby. Nothing wrong IMO with a little fun between baby and mommy. Its really not harmful so I dont see it as a big deal...I really dont.

I am hysterical over here...
Germs??? chemicals??? Oh gosh...these exist in the daily world we live in. 9 months old is NOT an infant. Like I said, its not for me...but whose to judge.

I'll admit that I used to do Genevieve's nails at home when she was only 3 months old. She never had her hands in her mouth and it looked so cute. But I wouldnt bring her out to a salon.

I want to bring her on her 4th birthday, before the hannah montana concert, and I thought maybe that was too young.

However, if the baby is well behaved, I personally dont see anything wrong with it. Maybe she gets one coat of polish?

I think it's ridiculous and could be harmful and I would be very surprised if I saw it in the salon also. Chat Icon

Also, to add, we're in a recession....people are actually paying for this? Chat Icon

It's not for me. I think it's a bit ridiculous to get your 9 month old's nails done weekly. Maddie is 6 & I'm not keen on her having it. In fact, she can only have it if she stops sucking her thumb.

Re: Is 9 months old too young for a mani pedi with mummy ??

the fumes from some of the nail treatments are way too harsh on me, if I was getting something like that done i would NOT bring a baby with me...but if it's a simple nail color, i guess? i dunno i would rather go by myself to have some "me" time, but maybe this mommy was a FT working mom who wanted to spend the time w her baby?
