Is a C-section class definitely mandatory?
I think I have read on here or heard somewhere that taking a C-section class was mandatory yet my doctor has not mentioned this to me. (I'm almost 32weeks) She has brought up lamaze, but that's it. Now I'm wondering if it actually is mandatory, does anyone know? Does it depend on the hospital?

I had a c-section with my first DS and my OB never mentioned a class either.

Re: Is a C-section class definitely mandatory?
I am delivering at Good Sam and they require us a to take their 2-hour C/S class in order to have my DH in the room in case I need one. We called to schedule a tour and they told us we had to take the C/S class first. We are taking it this weekend, I will let you know how it goes!

There's really nothing you need or want to know!
You go in, take the baby out, that's it! Well, the 3 things I wish someone would have warned me about, but don't necessarily need a class for was 1) That they strap your arms down 2) The pressure and feeling like you can't breath 3) That you shiver and freeze in there. I suffered through my 1st c-section but remembered with my 2nd to ask prior to c-section for warming blankets. OMG.... how good it felt and no more shivering. Those operating rooms are SO cold!

ugh! Of course that is where I will be having the baby so I guess we will have to go for that. At least its just a one day, couple hours thing so I still have time.

Re: Is a C-section class definitely mandatory?
I heard that Southside did away with that requirement but that Good Sam still has it.
What I fail to understand is this- what does taking a class have to do with having your DH in the room with you for the C section? He won't be performing or assisting with the surgery for God's sake! In fact- I would think he would be more involved in a regular V-birth- yet they dont' require you to take childbirth or lamaze class to have him in the room with you for that!
To me- I think it's a scam to make money....

Then I really don't get the point. Again- he won't be doing anything during the C other than being up by your head. What is the point of this class? And why aren't lamaze classes mandatory as well?

Re: Is a C-section class definitely mandatory?
I had DD at Good Sam in 10/07 and didn't take the C-section class, but I do remember it being discussed.
Honestly, I never understood the mandatory C-section class. What if you need an emergency C-section? Does that mean DH won't be allowed in the room??? I have never heard (IRL or on the boards) that anyone's DH was denied entry.

Re: Is a C-section class definitely mandatory?
I delivered at good sam, we did take the csection class bc they said it was mandatory. Whether they wouldnt have let DH in the room or not, we werent going to take that chance. The class was from 8-10 we got out of there at 9 and it was free.

Yeah I'm not that bothered by it...it's free and maybe they have good reason for it. Who knows! We will find out tomorrow.
