We want to being 18mo ds to check out fire island. Hoping he'll nap on the way and back. Are the ferries sparse? Are there must sees on fire island? It's our first time and trying to plan on time or whether we should book a hotel..... TIA!

It depends on which town on FI you an to visit. I think the ferries run less often after Labor Day, but you could def do a day trip.

If you're just looking for the beach, Id say Sailor's Haven (Ferry from Sayville) or Davis Park (Ferry from Patchogue).

If you're looking for shops/restaurants, then Id say Ocean Beach (Ferry from Bayshore).

Eta, there are hotels on Ocean Beach, not sure where else on FI.

you can only walk or bike everywhere so bring your stroller or a child insert for bike. the restaurants are kid friendly. I;d stay in ocean beach

We just did a one day trip to Ocean Beach. We took at 10am ferry went right to the beach for a couple of hours then we ate some food at McGuires and walked up and down the little shopping strip did a little shopping ate some icecream and jumped on the 7something ferry and was home by 8:30. It was a nice day.

Absolutely! It may be a long day but a lot of people go in the morning and come back at night. We do it all the time.

We just made the exact trip. It was totally doable in one day but prepare to walk! Chat Icon
