we could never survive on 1 income- DH is comission only sales and I luckily have a salary
and a hobby that we do on the side that makes us money as well
we have cut back alot to save for a house-
I don't shop at full price stores anymore
I buy food at super walmart which is cheap and great
I buy gas in NJ and save 50 cents a gallon
we are going to trade the mustang in for a moe practical car- (it cost too much to maintain and can't be driven 3 months out of the year)
My cats are now crapping on $3 for 30lb kitty litter instead of $10 for 15lbs kitty litter
I do watch what I spend more- but I was heading in that direction before the economy took a turn

Ditto. We purposely have a simple lifestyle. So for us nothing has changed.
Us too. We own our home but we have no kids, so it's just us, and we both work, so we don't live paycheck to paycheck.

i have cut back -
my weekly homegoods splurges f/b mani pedi have turned into
shopping only if i have a gift card and a bi monthly polish change
we dont go out as often- we look for free weekend activites instead
drive less
etc.

This is exactly why DH and i will stay put in our 2 bedroom co-op. Theres no way w. all these increases in things that i would want a huge mortgage too.

we're getting by ok now, but we have to prioritize our house projects so we don't run out of funds......also b/c I feel like ya never know what could happen, we kind of squirrel a little bit away just in case. what scares me is when we decide to have kids, I don't really know how we'll get by......even if I do go back to work full time, I don't know who we'd leave our baby with.....I always imagined I'd be able to stay home, but w/ the cost of living its just so tough.

we are ok for now...thankfully we are both getting raises in May and I will get another increase due to Master plus 30 in July

I think comfortable is subjective. We are doing better than we were last year, when my son was born, and would probably have really been up sh*ts creek had the gas prices been this bad last year (they were still high though.)
we have a roof over our head, hot water, heat, a washer and dryer, food, clothes, general life necessities, and diapers for Cailen. Once in a while we get to go out to eat, I can get a mani/pedi every few months, and even save up to buy a nice piece of clothing for myself, or something nice for Cailen, or a toy.
That, to me, is total comfort. Last year, I couldn't give that same list, and definitely would have answered this question differently. It took a lot of work to get here. I really thank God everyday....
