Re: Is anyone else the 1st to have kids out of friends?

I was...it was tough at times...

I was so young when I had my eldest daughter. I went through so much with her and the pregnancy...my friends just couldnt understand where my life was at.

I was in the same boat as you..noone calling to ask me to go out or to go shopping. I felt very very alone...

I made a point of keeping in touch and was the first one there wishing them congrats when they had kids...

Some friendships lasted others didnt...

Re: Is anyone else the 1st to have kids out of friends?

In my close group of friends, I'm the first to have a baby. Most are married or engaged.

I'm lucky though because they have all become attache to my DD and want to be with her ll the time, They call to ask if they can come over to see DD, not me...lol

So, not too awkward, we just bring DD everywhere we all go as girls during the day....She's just one of the girls.

The only downpart is that sometimes they dont realize that I can't stay out as late anymore because I'm up early and cant sleep till noon like them...lol

I'm 23 too, I feel the same way. Sometimes a girlfriend will call asking me to come out for dinner...at like 10pm! Not only is DS sleeping, but i'm exhausted at that point.

Re: Is anyone else the 1st to have kids out of friends?

We were the first in our close group of friends but then another friend had a baby a few months later. But I will say it got better as DS got older! We have one friend who is very anit baby with her DH and we never heard from them until we called them one night to go out to eat with us and DS and once they saw how we could still do stuff and not be all about baby it was fine now we talk more often.

Also try to initiate things yourself with them so they see you are still the same friend you were before even if you do have a baby now! When our DS and our friends DS were really small we used to invite friends over and order in to watch a fight or play poker or whatever! It broke the ice!

Now that DS is 17 mo nths they see that we take him everywhere! But we still do have issues with them understanding that if its an adult only place we need advance notice to get a babysitter!

GL!

One of them has yet to even meet DS and he is over 6 months. Chat Icon I know we are just in different stages of life, but I hate that they sometimes make me feel like I'm in the wrong for settling down and having babies.

I think I have you beat! one of my best friends from college, who was my BM, has not met either of my kids - and my oldest is 4! I was the first to have kids, but a different childless friend always calls, is understanding about how tiring parenthood is and is always the person I can count on.

now that the former is getting married - I'm having a hard time finding the desire to go to her bridal shower.

I can totally relate. None of my friends or DH friends are in serious relationships even. It is hard becuase I have nobody to hang out with during the week!

Re: Is anyone else the 1st to have kids out of friends?

We're the first of my group of friends to have a baby. Most of them are still enjoying being single so I'm sure it will be a while before any of them have kids. One of DH's college friends just had their 2nd, but they live in OH so we rarely see them. Out of our law school friends, one couple just had a Chat Icon in April and another couple is expecting in the fall. Both couples live in other states so we don't see them as often as we'd like.

It's definitely tough being the first of our friends to have kids. I missed a lot of my friends' 30th birthday parties b/c they were right around when DS was born.
