Is anyone having (or had) a hard time dealing with loss of grandparents?

I don't have any friends (or my husband) who were as close with their grandparents as I was with mine. My grandfather passed 18 months ago and my grandmother passed away very unexpectedly 3 months ago. I am having such a difficult time dealing and I keep it internal. I suspect that part of the difficulty is that I'm the executor of the estate and am knee-deep in cleaning out the house that they shared for 52 years.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in my shoes. Thanks!

Yes, I was VERY close with my grandma..she died 3 years ago in Feb.. I miss her so much it hurts at times...It is weird..ever since she died I find pennies on the ground when a special event is taking place..Even in the delivery room when my DD was born. I like to take it as a sign that she is with me.. Anyway. forward me if you ever need to talk.

i lost my grandmother 10 months today. i was extrermely close with her. i have my good days and bad days. i loved sending her grandparent day cards. to me it was always grarndparents day. i know as the anniversary gets closer it will be sad. i'm just taking it one day at a time and remembering all the happy times. i know one of the happiest time with her was seeing her at my wedding

My grandfather died in 1991 and put me into such a depression that words cannot describe. I always say that man was more of a father to me then a grandfather and I miss him every day.

The pain has lessened but the desire to see him and share with him never fades.

I just wished he was still here to meet my husband and my daughter.

I completely understand. I lost my grandfather about five years ago and my grandmother unexpectedly this past summer. Words cannot begin to describe how much I miss them. I still find myself crying at the drop of a hat when certain things cross my mind.

The pain did start to lessen with my grandfather but when my grandma passed this summer, it's like it doubled. I know time again will lessen the pain but I am also positive I will never stop missing them and sad that they will never meet my children.

Re: Is anyone having (or had) a hard time dealing with loss of grandparents?

I lost both my grandparents last year (8 months apart) and I feel like I lost my parents. Not a minute goes by that I don't think about them. I was extremely close to both of them - and they were so much a part of my life.

My grandfather slowly went downhill for about 2 months - just old age stuff - and it was so difficult to watch it happen. My grandmother was heartbroken - they were married for 65 years.

Right after my grandfather died, my grandmother started losing weight and not feeling well. The doctor told her it was depression. She had pain in her back that was so bad (she is not a woman to complain) and they told her it was some kind of spinal digeneration issue. Finally, after fighting with the doctor, my mom and uncles took her for a scan. She was diagnosed with lung and liver cancer and died two weeks later.

It's coming up on the one year anniversary of her death and it makes me feel sick everytime I think about it. This weather and time of year isn't helping because it's just a reminder of what we were going through with her last year. I feel like such a big part of my life is empty.

Nobody I know was as close to their grandparents as myself and my cousins also. They were there for everything for us and were truly special people. I hate to say this but my own parents and my husbands parents don't even come close to the kind of grandparents they were. I know how you feel and is really sucks, and I wish I could tell you it will get easier soon, but I am still waiting.
