Is anyone NOT taking Metformin for PCOS?
Diagnosed with PCOS. I know the typical protocol is to take Clomid and Metformin. Made an appointment in Sept. to see an RE.
I am really afraid to start taking Metformin due to its really bad side effects on the stomach. I already suffer from IBS from time to time and anxiety. Has anyone tried to get pregnant or has become pregnant without the help of Metformin? I have already tried 2 rounds of Clomid with my GYN and timed intercourse (did not become pregnant). Had no side effects from taking the Clomid. It is the Metformin I am really afraid to take, and it is causing me major anxiety
Anyone not take it and have had any success?
Thanks for listening

i did not start out taking metformin because my fasting insulin came back normal. but i eventually did start taking it. i got pregnant with IVF though. i took it my whole pregnancy and stopped during nursing. i started again when i stopped nursing and this time it is worse on my stomach but has COMPLETELY regulated my cycle. its so exciting to have a predictable cycle, i haven't had that (without BCP) since I was like 16. the stomach issues do suck but it gets better with time.

I have PCOS but my fasting blood sugar is normal so I do not need it. Is your blood sugar normal?

Re: Is anyone NOT taking Metformin for PCOS?
My first child I was on the Metformin and Clomid after a few failed attempts...I get pregnant.
Second Time, My glucose levels were borderline, so it was my choice. I opted for no Metformin...and now i am pregnant with Twins.
It depends more on the glucose factors than the PCOS...so speak to your Dr. about what is best.

Re: Is anyone NOT taking Metformin for PCOS?
Thank you all for the responses and for sharing your experiences. The last time I had bloodwork done, my insulin levels were fine. So I am hoping that it is still the same since I have not gone for bloodwork in a while to check all of my levels. I am going for a consultation with an RE in Sept. so I guess I will wait and see what he thinks is best. Thanks again
