Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I will start taking it after I finish with the provera and get AF... but my dr. said that I will probably feel sick on it... did you feel sick? How bad was it? Does it go away as your body adjusts to taking it?
TIA!

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
For most it is not that bad and your body adjusts. Make sure you have the extended release form. Also try to follow a low carb low fat diet. The carbs you eat should be good carbs. for example whole wheat breads and wholw wheat pasta. Stay away from white breads, pasta and rice. You can eat low fat cheeses and yogurt. Make sure to take your Met with food or milk. And start with a low dose and slowly work up to your full dose. I still get sick if I eat something real bad. It doesn't happen often since I have learned my lesson. I started O'ing my 3rd month on it and was pregnant my 6th month on it. Good luck and for me it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I agree about watching what you eat. Sometimes I still get an upset stomach (after 5 months on it), but it's nothing major. Good luck!

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I didn't feel too bad at all. But my doctor sent me to a nutritionist too. They usually start you on a lower dosage, then increase as needed. I went up to the highest dosage and still felt well.

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I took 2000 mg in the end. I found that taking the medication either right after dinner or before I went to bed worked the best. I also took it with some sort of dairy (milk, ice cream)
Many people have horrible stomach issues with this medication. I was lucky and have an iron stomach!
Wishing you all the best!

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I still get sick stomachs from it (I've been on it since October), but its not as frequently as it was when I first started taking it. I'm on 2000mg. Its really not that bad.
Good luck!

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
For me it was pretty bad a took a while for me to get use to. When I first started it I took the full dosage of 1500mgs on the first day...big mistake! I was (tmi) living in the bathroom. A friend told me to start off slow then work myself up to the full dosage.
I am use to it now and my stomach has gotten a lot better. I now take the full dosage before I go to bed.
good luck!

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I had a similiar experience to some of the girls here. I was told to take 1 pilll a day week 1- 2 pills a day week 2 and finally 3 a day week 3 adnt o continue @ that rate.
Most days I was ok, it was when I ate a meal high in fat that I wasn't feeling too great. It really wasn't that bad @ all.

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I had no issues. But I stayed away from carbs and took it with protein packed food every time.
Good luck!!

I started in 750mg of extended release and had no problems. Two weeks later I was bumped up to 1500mg and oh boy. But I wasn't watching my diet. Once I made the carb adjustments I had no issues. Well as long as I am a good girl.

Re: Ladies who have taken/are taking metformin
I went from 500 to 1000 to 1500 over about 2 weeks and increased as I got used to it. In the beginning it was bad with stomach aches. I also agree with watching what you eat. The healthier you eat, the less the side effects were. If I had something high in fat, I was sure to feel it later on. But it did regulate my cycles back to normal so I stuck wtih it.
