Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?

ours is not. they have set times for well, set for sick. if you need to be seen with a sick child, its usually in the afternoon - well visits in the am.
This is the same with our Ped's office. As a mom of a preemie, I would not be thrilled to be sitting in a waiting room with my child for that amount of time. I am neurotic when it comes to my second DS bc of this

My ped's office has a sick and well room. The most I've waited in 9 months for sick and well appts is 10 mins. Our appts are always in the evening though.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
My pediatrician has separate sick & well waiting rooms. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen and even then, they immediately put me into a room and had me wait there. I think the problem with your practice is that they are overbooking appointments. I used to work for a practice in Westbury that would book 3-4 patients every 15 minutes (two doctors)! The doctors literally ran in and out of every room, each visit lasting MAYBE 5-10 minutes tops. They wouldn't even update the chart with notes until the end of the day. I was always very skeptical about this because how could they possibly remember every detail accurately? Needless to say, I did not take DS there when he was born and if I were you, I would probably switch practices. My pediatrician is in Mineola which is not one of the towns you asked about, but she is wonderful!

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
DD actually goes to my old pediatrician. I LOVE her, since it's only her the wait can get crazy but the most I've waited was 30mins and that was b/c I went w/o an apt. Usually I walk in and we're in a room in 5min.
ETA: When DD was a newborn and I went they took you in right away, there is no waiting. Usually you had the 1st apt of the day to avoid possibly getting the baby sick.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
I am in suffolk so I dont think youd want me to rec my ped. but i will say....that is unacceptable in my opinion.
My DD is 4.5 yrs old and we have never waited more than 10 min to see the dr. Ever. And she has been there plenty of times in her 4 yrs LOL.
Also...the waiting room has a sick and a well side. Both sides are huge with plenty of room so no one is every on top of you.
It sound slike you need a new ped. I hope one of the nassau girls canhelp with a rec.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
ours is the opposite, sick kids, get seen first
well visit can wait up to an hour, we don't mind that much actually, DS likes looking at all the kids and babies waiting

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
anytime i am there with my infant we are either in the well room or taken to a room... they are really good about protecting the boys and actually had me wait in the room until a sick family was done at the desk because they didnt want us catching what their kids had... the longest we have ever waited was 30 minutes and that was a sick visit

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
Yes, normal. We normally wait in the waiting room for 5 - 10 minutes, then in the room for another 15-30 minutes.
My peds office does not give preference based on the childs age or disease, they go by appointment time. They are normally a few minutes behind because some patients take longer than others. I would never leave because of it though. I expect that if I have an appointment for 10am, than I am not being SEEN by a doctor till at least 1030.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
I've never brought DS in for a sick visit, but every time I've been there it's never been like that. One time I went (2 or 3 month well visit I think), we waited about 30 minutes, but they have a well & sick room. So far I'm very happy with my ped, we use Bellmore Merrick Pediatrics on Newbridge Rd.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
I would not have been happy at all. My PED has any baby under a year in a different waiting room.
I have never experienced it over crowded or super busy like that. I am typically seen within 5 minutes of getting there.
I would be very upset that they over-booked by so much!

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
i switched peds when DS was 5 month sold because of a similar experience. im with a ped now that has only 1 dr and i never wait more than 5-10 mins. i wanted a more personable experience where DS wouldnt just be another file in their cabinet and i have that now with the new ped.

Re: is everyone's pediatrician's office like this?
No. The few times I bought DD in for a sick visit..I called they told me to bring her in, & they took me right back. We switched from our first PED's office b/c it was like what you are describing.
