Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
Someone I know who is Christian but not Catholic had a death in their family. I am Catholic and usually give mass cards in times of death...Is this appropriate in this situation or no?

I think it's appropriate. I believe ANY form of showing how sorry you are is appreciated. I would think it's kind, and not offensive....I think it's a beautiful gesture

I am not catholic and would have no clue what this really is. Why don't you just get a card.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
A mass card means that the sender has arranged to have a mass said in the name of the deceased.
Catholic masses are normally dedicated to someone who has died. It is a way of honoring th person who has passed.

While your heart is in the right place, I don't think it's really appropriate. I would just get a regular sympathy card.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I'm Catholic and have sent Mass cards to non-Catholics. In my opinion, a prayer is a prayer, and in times of loss, that's what matters. If a non-Catholic person told me that they were praying for me, I wouldn't be offended because they don't share my beliefs, I'd be grateful for their prayers.

I agree. I'm a non-Catholic Christian and while I wouldn't be offended, it certainly wouldn't have the same meaning for me.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I will disagree with most of the above posters and say NO.
A Mass Card is given because a MASS is being said in the honor of the deceased. Non-Catholics do NOT believe what we as Catholics believe is occurring at Mass (that Christ is physically present in the bread and wine).
That said, I don't think it would be a terrible thing, but if it's a non-catholic I would just get a regular sympathy card, perhaps one with a religious undertone, but not a Mass card.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I think it's fine. We've done it for FH's Jewish relatives. They appreciated the meaning of it, even though it's not their religion.
I don't know that everyone will truly appreciate it, but as long as you don't have a history of trying to proseletyze, I don't think anyone would be offended.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
So some non-catholic christian don't believe in prayers for the deceased, more so prayers for the family.
A religious card would be appropriate

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I'm not Catholic and I wouldn't be offended if I was given a Mass Card. People may not do that for me since I am a Commissioned Teaching Minister. Also, there was an earlier poster that said non-Catholics don't beleive that Christ is truly present in the Sacrament. The Lutherans do beleive that Christ is truly present in, with, and under the sacrament. The other Protestant religions are the ones that beleive it is just a symbol.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I am Jewish and I would think that the person forgot that I am Jewish if they sent me a mass card. I'd appreciate the sentiment but I'd be a bit confused.

I agree with the idea about Lutherans believing Christ to be present in the Eucharist, but Lutherans and Catholics do NOT believe the exact same thing with respect to the Eucharist. I believe the Roman Catholic church is the only church to believe in transubstantiation (though the Orthodox church might as well, I'm not sure). Lutherans believe something sort of similar, but not the same. While rooted in similar beliefs, Lutherans reject transubstantiation.
