It's a nice thought but I wouldn't.

While your heart is in the right place, I don't think it's really appropriate. I would just get a regular sympathy card.
Agreed. I would give a sympathy card instead. I agree too
I agree. I'm a non-Catholic Christian and while I wouldn't be offended, it certainly wouldn't have the same meaning for me.
Same here
Ditto, non-Catholic here. I'd be confused since right NOW I have no idea what a mass card is. I wouldn't understand why you sent it to me and what I'm supposed to do with it. It'd be a rough time as it is, I'd prefer a sympathy card.
PS: Not all non-catholics are non-believers of Body and Blood of Christ (bread/wine). Not JUST Catholics believe that Christ is physically present. Nor do all non-catholics not believe in praying to the dead. I think religion as a whole is misunderstood and my biggest pet peeve is when other religions tell me what I believe.

Re: Is it ok to give a mass card to a non Catholic??
I think this thread is an example of why I cannot consider myself Catholic anymore. I believe in God and feel that all religions are a different path to the same place. The little details about, what is going on in this sect vs. that sect during communion, what name you use to call God, or if you pray for the living or the dead really don't matter to me. What matters is the spiritual relationship and how you treat your fellow man (again, to me).
I feel that a prayer is a prayer, keeping a preson in your thoughts during a time of need is wonderful. Pray for them in whatever manner you are comfortable praying. But I guess you have to know the recipient, as this thread has shown religion is a very personal thing and some people may not want or understand your gesture.

The point of my post was not to tell anyone what they personally do or don't believe - I apologize if it came off that way. I was merely pointing out that transubstantiation goes beyond just the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and is a doctrine that is expressly rejected by the Lutheran Church and most non-Catholic Christian churches. Transubstantiation means that the entire substance of the bread and wine is turned entirely into the body and blood of Christ.
I never meant to imply that non-Catholics don't believe Christ is not physically present in the Eucharist... nor would I ever tell someone else what they personally believe. I don't know anyone who wholesale adopts as their beliefs the doctrines of the church with which they most closely identify.
And, as a final disclaimer, I'm also NOT in any way expressing anything I may or may not believe.
In all honestly, I sincerely apologize if you or anyone else were offended by my post.

I'd go with just a sympathy card.

I'll clarify my earlier post. I agree that transubstantiation (Catholic communion belief) and the REal Presence (Lutheran communion belief) are different. The difference is very slight but it is different/
