If I went to a party that was such a big thing as a christening, and there was no favor, I would be
Maybe it's just a European thing.... there are always favors.... like em or not.
Isn't the favor like a "thankyou " for the pressie?
My Siclian family would BASH us if no favor!
That's exactly what it's for.... Um yeah... the Greeks and Colombians in our family would be HEATED.....

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
I think its totally NOT necessary
eta: Every favor I ever got was such junk...such a waste of money. Except for any food of course, but I feel its just not necessary. I feel that if people are going to complain, let the cheap b*stards complain

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
I am still debating it. If I do a favor it will be small... either a choc lollipop, a candy bar, or seed that you can plant.

I really don't like favors unless they are edible.
Is just anohter thing to clutter my house with, I think most people throw them away, unless they are edible.

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
you dont have to, its really a personal choice. i didnt do it for DD because the party was very last minute. like we planned it 2 days before it all happened. plus the dedication didnt happen at my home church in new york, if it had happened there we would have done a bigger party with favors etc. and the party was on mothers day...very last minute.

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
I think favors (and parties in general) have gotten way out of control. I don't think you HAVE to have them. I always do them because I enjoy putting them together. I don't think a favor is a "thank you" for a gift. I think a "thank you card" is a thank you for a gift and attendance at the function.

I just saw another post about favors and it freaked me out because I wasn't planning on doing them! As it is we are spending so much money on this event. Will people expect them??
I didn't and no one noticed.

same here - I like to have/get favors but only when you can actually USE or eat them
We do edible favors - cupcakes, cookies, etc for our parties. Wine was our wedding favor

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
I had DD's picture taken in her Christening gown and gave everyone a wallet size in frames I got from wrapwithus.com in syosset for $0.99.
I had the pics taken in Kiddie Kandids. They give you your order the same day.

i don't think it's a european thing - my family is northern italian (i am first generation american) and it's not a hard and fast rule in my community.
i didn't do favors because i personally dislike them and tend to throw out favors that i get from other people... as horrible as that sounds. but overall i think it's a personal decision.

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
Don't ask me...
I ALWAYS give favors, for every and all occasions.
I even give family member favors when they come for Thanksgiving.
I feel it's a nice way to show your appreciation for coming to the party/ event.
I'm very Martha Stewart that way.

Re: is it ok to NOT do favors for a christening?
I did the pops as favors because i wanted a little something since my DS's christening was strictly immediate family
But i really don't think that anyone gives a crapola if you do or do not have them. And quite honestly if they do and would look "down" on you, they really need to get a life IMO.
it is a christening for Pete's sake
IMO unless it is immediate family or REALLY close friends, the stuff gets thrown out in a day or two.

I HATE, HATE, HATE favors. My family does not care one bit about them!
My DH is Sicilan and his family looks for favors as if they are going out of style. And flowers arrangements - they actually fight to see who is taking it home. Drives me nuts!
DS's baptism is coming up and I am still trying to find something.......

I hate favors (getting them & having to give them). However my MIL would have a heart attack if I didnt give her friends something
