Not doing it, but I'll definitely have input. If you are ok with it (and so are your family members & friends), I say it's fine, if you'll have the energy & time to devote to it.

I will probably only get one from work.

I have no relatives close by. And I don't feel confortable organizing one myself. I would feel I am begging for presents.

I had to. My mom was caring for my grandmother and my MIL was in FL. I have no sisters or SILs at the time. I didn't want one but my grandmother had been in a coma for my bridal shower and was really looking forward to it, so I planned it myself and pretended to be surprised for her sake.

I think it is fine. When I found out that DH was going to organize one for me I thought for sure I would be planning it but he and my SIL wouldn't have that. I am able to make suggestions which I think that he takes since he knows it's what I want.

Re: Is it ok to plan your own baby shower?

I did all the research on the location/date and time, and booked the location and will be paying for that part. My "aunt" who lives here was "upset" when my mom told her I was planning my own shower. I bought the invites, and will be passing those on to my "aunt" to send. I will probably hand over the rest of the planning to my mom and "aunt"

The biggest reason I did so much of the planning on my own is my mom lives out of state, my MIL has too much going on, as do both my SILs. My best friend is 7 weeks behind me, and lives in VA.

So, to answer, there is nothing wrong with planning your own shower. My biggest concern was having people RSVP to me, I didn't want that. That is why my "aunt" is sending out the invites. I was going to send them with her as the RSVP.

Re: Is it ok to plan your own baby shower?

I am. Well, Im helping plan it.
My sisters' shower, she was involved and it was so much easier for both of us.

Also, we have SO much going on..my nieces christening, a wedding. Just way too much and she has a 2wk old right now.

I dont mind. My bridal shower was enough and a surprise.

Plus, I got to pick out my invites and favors. Chat Icon
SO I totally think its ok!

JMO-I don't feel comfortable having anything to do with planning my own shower. As an OP said, I feel like it's being kind of greedy.

Then again, I'm not into the whole baby shower thing anyway....Chat Icon

Re: Is it ok to plan your own baby shower?

For my first, my mom paid for everything and had it at her house, and she helped, but I wanted to plan it. I had everything set in my mind of what I wanted, and I wanted to get it just right, so I planned most of it. I didn't mind though, because I didn't pay, or have to clean up!Chat Icon

Well. Yes, it is ok to. If I were I would probably be a little bit more "behind the scenes" tho.

My SIL planned her own shower under the guise that I was throwing it (I couldn't even GO) and it looked kind of silly.

Re: Is it ok to plan your own baby shower?

I don't think it's right for the honoree to be overly involved in the shower or choosing location, etc. It's like throwing a party for yourself and having someone else pay for it. That's JMO.

I think it's okay to be a bit involved with date, invite list, etc. My mom kept me completely out of the loop and I was glad - I didn't need any drama or stress with cost, who was paying for what, etc. I was happy to have it taken care of for me.

My mom will probably be paying for it, but I will most likely plan the majority of it.
