Just an FYI...it is only effecting ABC 7 and not any of the Disney/ABC owned cable networks and if Channel 7 does go dark it is because ABC pulled the plug...not Cablevision.
Don't get me wrong...I LOVE ABC! Everything I watch is on that network and I will be pis s ed if it goes dark.
Totally agree. I love how these networks play off viewer's emotions and then people think its Cablevision at fault.
It's the network demanding more money and Cablevision is refusing to raise their rates for their customers.
And the more people think it's the cable company at fault, the more networks will try to strongarm cablevision.
I agree, I think it is great that Cablevision is trying to keep our rates down.
I'm sorry, and I'm not saying Cablvision is wrong in this - actaully I think they both are, but the above statement makes me laugh. I don't for a moment believe Cablevision is trying to keep rates down - and CERTAINLY NOT for thier customers benefits!!!!
Am I the only person on LI who doesn't hate cablevision? I seriously have never had any problems with them and I do not find their rate that unreasonable for the services.

I don't mind them. I don't really have any issues either. The phone service works great. Internet is fast. The only thing I am not a fan of is the slowness of the boxes (especially the HD, non-DVR box). Painful.
I also know a bunch of people that work for Cablevision so I know what goes on behind the scenes. They are an excellent company to work for. Superior benefits. And during a down economy, they kept layoffs to a bare minimum (if any). I would work for them in a heartbeat if the right opportunity came up.
Verizon is an evil company IMO. Their business practices regarding their "unlimited" internet service on their wireless plans was a huge pile of dogs***. They would purposely throttle customers (slowing them down), and terminated customers who they felt were using too much internet. Verizon lost a class action lawsuit over this. Good for them because they deserved it. I am waiting till they start their shenanigans with the FIOS internet. That's if they even get enough customers signed up for it to even be an issue.

I have no problems with CV and never considered leaving them.
Internet is fast, phone is cheap, and well cable more than I would like to pay, but still reasonable. We get hundreds of stations for less than $100, add in the DVR, 2 more cable boxes I am still getting a good deal at $125.

Re: Is it true that Cablevision won't have channel 7 (ABC) after March 7th?
This is the ad Cablevision put together in response to the ABC ads. There's also a longer version on youtube if interested, it's under the related videos.
Cablevision's response to ABC
I know people who have worked for Cablevision for many years and admit that at times they make some really bone-headed decisions. I thought that the YES and Scripps negotiations weren't handled the best.
But in this case I'm with Cablevision, it's crazy for ABC to be asking for so much money for content they provide free of charge to all of us other ways. DH was on a call with Cablevision yesterday about a bond and this issue came up and they said that ABC is claiming they've been negotiating this for 2 years, but in reality it was mentioned a few times over the past 2 years and the negotiating has only taken place over the past few weeks.
ABC wants roughly $1 per customer per month over this contract period, so with CVC's approx. 3 million customers it works out to $40 million. When Time Warner and Fox were working out a deal it's estimated they ended up paying about $0.40 per customer per month. That's a big difference. I'm sure they'll work it out in the end, but if Cablevision customers lose the channel for any period of time it's because ABC is yanking the plug, not the other way around.
And unfortunately I think this type of behavior is going to become the new norm in these contract negotiations, where one side will try to get the customers upset and then they will try to force the other side's hand.

I wouldn't switch providers for HGTV or Food Network but I would switch for ABC. Cablevision would lose tons of customers. They have to make a compromise.
And I wouldn't change for ABC. Those shows are a lot easier to watch online than HGTV and Food shows are lol I hope they make an agreement though. And i REALLY wish we had changed to Verizon last time!!!
I am not a CV fan... the internet is soooo slow and since our triple pay expired we pay $160 for phone, Internet and extended cable, which is too much IMO. BUT I have not had any real issues with them. They are essentially a monopoly, so they can pretty much do whatever they want (and try to get away with everything) and THAT I have an issue with.
