We bought gender neutral stuff since we were planning on having them no more than two years apart. Most stuff is similar still. Now that we are expecting number 2 I am glad we did. Now we don't need another infant seat, high chair or pack and play regardless of the sex. And we aren't finding out this time.

Honestly, I bought the carseat to match the car, & then bought the rest of the matching set. It also matched the paint in my living room so it worked out well.

I can re-use for baby #2Chat Icon

That's what I did. If we do have another child we can't afford to buy new things other than clothing. I'm trying to think ahead as much as possible! Chat Icon

Ok so gender neutral is the way to go.

Next question:

What age do children not need most of these baby items? Am I making sense? I am so confused!

We went gender neutral

How long you can use the items depends on the baby preferences and weight.
For example DS was 10lbs at birth so he was out of hte infant car seat at 6 months. Same for the bouncy seat although that only lasted until about 4 months. He loved his swing though and we just put it away at 7 months

Totally gender neutral....

actually, for us, not only gender neutral, but also matching the decorating scheme of our home and our cars....

I think the latter issue is equally important for the large / big ticket items, so your home doesn't begin to look like a gaint walk-through BRU display Chat Icon

So far everything but 1/2 the clothing is gender neutral (including bedding) and matches our home decor (very modern black/grey/white/red) except for the @#$@#! swing. that stupid thing came in only pink or blue Chat Icon we had to get it though, becuase it plugs into the wall..... we seriously didn't want to deal with batteries.

In that case, we decided on blue becuase a girl in a blue swing isn't as ridiculous as a boy in a pink swing Chat Icon

I registered for almost everything except bedding, clothing and that sort of stuff in gender neutral themes because we definitely want more kids pretty soon. I registered for one rocker in pink and brown because that is my nursery theme and I loved the rocker (it's the maclaren techno rocker i think). but all of my other stuff--bassinet, co-sleeper, strollers, car seats, swing, high chair, etc- is gender neutral.

ETA--as with the previos poster, most of my stuff is just neutral in general to match the house. I have some colorful vibrant things to keep DD entertained, but any really big ticket items are very neutral.

ITA it varies. DS is still using his PNP at 1+ yr, but I think he used the bouncy seat for a month or two, and the swing for a few weeks.

I knew that I was having a boy but I still bought the majority of my items in gender neutral colors so that I could potentially reuse if they are in good condition with the next child.

Items I bought: stroller and car seat (red and black), bedding (sage green), highchair (rainforest theme), rocker.

It's a little harder with the clothing once they are beyond the 6-9 month range. Chat Icon

Yes. The way I look at it many of the things aren't used that long to begin with so you might as well be able to reuse them with the next baby.

That's a good poiint. I really don't know what it out there but I would like things to blend into my home. I have very specific tastes, so I guess neutral is the way to go! Thanks!!!!

When you look at patterns, make sure you ask if it is going to be discontinued. Companies like Graco will change their patterns in the Winter though February every year. Chat Icon

Gender neutral is the way to go if you are planningto have more children in my opinion. Why spend more money in a few years for the same stuff?
