Thank you for all the advice.

I don't think it's personally a great time for us to buy a house (we still have debt), but my FH started looking at some places, and the prices are pretty decent (looking in parts of westchester). He's just kind of looking to scope it out. He's tired of paying rent and making the LL rich.

He saw a place within a mile of my job, half of a duplex and it looks like a perfect place for us. It's listed around $300K (he figured he could get it even lower). It's small, but a great place to live for the next 5+ years. As I said I don't think financially it's the best time to buy a house for us personally, but he had a good argument about the market and was thinking of trying to make it work to buy a house now that prices and rates are low.

What you're saying is good news. If the market will be better for buyers in 12-18 months, that gives us time to really think about it, find a place we like, save for the downpayment and get our credit scores up that much more.

I'm not sure if we actually will buy a house, but you ladies know SO much more about this than I do. I appreciate the advice.

The thought of buying a house together is really exciting! And how adorable is he that he started looking right around MY job? Although he doesn't realize it's not the best neighborhood. Still I think it's probably a great time to buy in White Plains with all of the trump condos going up, hopefully the neighbrohood will get better as will home values.
