Is now a good time to lease a car?

Seems like prices have skyrocketed since last year...I'm not good with these things though...is the economy to blame? Should I just wait it out?
My boss got a Kia Sportage last year for $340 a month and they just wquoted me $468 last night.

The money they're offering me for my car is ridiculous too!

Honestly, I know nothing about leases, but I was reading an article on the economy and is said to hold off on large purchases such as cars. I am not in the position to get a car right now as I bought mine a year ago, but unless you have great credit and big DP, you may not get a great deal. I would personally never lease as I don't like the terms, etc.

if your credit is really good you should have no problem.'

There are so many reasons monthly payments are different; down payment differences, interest rates at the bank, the model year (if they are trying to make room for the new model) and finally negotiation.

They will try to get as much money from you as possible of course.

You need to go into the negotiation armed. Get the invoice price of the car. That is what you need to negotiate. Do not negotiate on the monthly payment. That is leasing 101. Interest rates are different from last year but over it should not swing the payment that much.

With the current state of the economy now is the time to buy and not the time to lease.

Re: Is now a good time to lease a car?

The only reason I would lease right now is that the MPG requirements are due to change in the 2010 production year and there is speculation that the "new" cars now might have a lower re-sale or trade value once the majority of passenger vehicles are ovber 30 MPG standard......

(or if you can lease under a business ID & get the writer-off Chat Icon ).

I was always a "leaser" but we just bought our new jeep a few weeks ago since chrysler financial doesn't lease anymore.

If we were to lease through a different bank the lease payments would've been way higher than our finance payments! I'd look into financing... we got a great deal.

How do I find out the invoice price of the car? Is this something I can find in Kelly Blue Book?

Re: Is now a good time to lease a car?

I am a firm believer in financing, not leasing. Most dealerships are have restructured the "lease" and its not as benefitial as it use to be. If you are someone who wants a new car every 2-3 years, then maybe that is your best bet. But if you are looking to buy something long term, I would consider financing.

To be honest, I am not a HUGE believer in buying brand new cars either, just because of their rapid depreciation rate. I look for a 1-2 year old car, for significantly less money, low mileage, and clear history. Something else to consider.

Good luck either way! Chat Icon

What makes you think car prices are skyrocketing?

From what I see.... cars are being sold at rock bottom pricing.
