it's now on the 'bad' list becuase a study showed that many shops don't clean out their machines well, so bacteria grows over time 
This is what I was told as well. A lot of the shops only rinse the machines with water & there is a chance that bacteria grows.
I take it all with a grain of salt at this point.

I think the best thing to do is to ask your doctor and decide from there what is best for you -
Everyone's MD tells them something different some are VERY conservative and strict and others are much more relaxed in the 'no no' list of foods and activities .......so I can completely understand why the woman who's MD said NO soft serve would stay away from it .......
BUT, if you listen to EVERY thing that every other pregnant woman (or anyone else for that matter) tells you about what you can/can not do and was is/is not dangerous, you'll go compeltely crazy -
I can see where the concern would be re: bacteria ........but there's bacteria EVERYWHERE .........why are JUST the soft serve machines a concern?

I had it a few times until I saw on the news that we shouldn't be eating it. no more soft serve for me!

when i get ice cream for the IC store- its always soft serve. both my kids turned out ok. i also dont have it all the time.

That stinks!!!!! I ate Marvel my entire pregnancy with my first and have been eating it with this pregnancy not as much as the first though and this is the first i am hearing of it..... very dispointing :(

I worked in two ice cream/yogurt places in HS and I can say that those suckers were cleaned out thoroughly each night (which is one of the reasons why I HATED closing)... But it depends on the place of course.
One place is still there (I think)-- the Haagan Daz on Merrick Rd in Merrick-- if anyone has a hankering for fro yo.

I fully believe in the grossness of these machines as AP said-not all of these places are the cleanest. I don't like soft serve so I don't eat it anyway but this is just further deterrent for me

 you do not like soft serve....  it is like my most favorite thing EVER...are you sure we have the same parents

I never heard that about soft serve on a seperate note it makes me wonder about the coffee machine I use at work that comes out of a machine too and I'm the only one that cleans it!
