Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I know that aspartame & saccharin are bad, but Splenda has neither.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
In moderation, it's fine. I avoided it for the first trimester, but after that I asked my doctor and he said it's fine.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
According to their web site, it is safe for pregnant women.
I use it-- or rather have drinks with Splenda because I need something to help me drink more since I have been having problems... I try to cut back on it though-- since I used it a lot before being prego.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
Moderation.
I was GD with my dd and my dietician had me eating the yougurt with splenda in it. the lite and fit brand. She said it was better for me than the sugar.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
My doctor doesn't want me to have it so I don't. I used to use it all the time before I was preggo. Now I use sugar. If I end up with GD then I will probably use it a bit.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I was told no. The reasoning behond this is Splenda hasn't been out for that long and not enough studies have been conducted to find out the effects on a developing fetus.
Look at it this way. 20 years again MDs told women that it was ok to use sweet and low. After years of testing we now know that sweet and low can cause birth defects.
I try to stick to things in their most natural form. Regular sugar derived from sugar cane, no artificial sweeteners etc.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
My Dr said Splenda is the only artificial sweetner that I should have.
I use it occasionally, not on a regular basis

actually I feel natural sugar would be way safer than a chemical substitute.
I wouldn't chance it. In moderation, fine, but not everyday

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
My OB specifically said no artificial sweeteners at all, ONLY sugar. He said that Splenda is really too new claim it's totally safe, why take chances... have the extra calories and just use sugar.

ITA! I stayed away from it with both pregnancies. I normally don't use it anyway though.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
Personally, I think the only sweetener that is safe is pure cane sugar. None of them are truly good for you when you are NOT pregnant. Sugar comes from a plant, the rest of them come from labs.
Upon being released from my RE I had asked him about artificial sweeteners and his response was that there was no conclusive evidence that they do damage and refused to choose one over the other. Any consumption of anything artificial should be reduced when pregnant. It is a pretty practical concept.
Mind you, I am drinking a Diet Coke right now . Though I don't have Diet Coke through an IV.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I personally feel safer not using any artificial sweeteners while pregnant. I have had splenda 3 times in my 20 weeks in coffee that I ordered and forgot about needed to sweeten it.

Uh. Yeah. No. Sugar is better than anything like splenda, nutrasweet, etc. My OB told me to drink regular Soda, the sugar in that is better than any "fake" stuff.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I was a Splenda junkie before my first preganancy. My OB recommended no because of limited time for studies looking at risks.
I miss my Splenda.

This is how I feel as well. I am lucky that I didn't drink much soda before PG so it hasn't really been a big deal. Now when we go out I always order water or decaf tea. I also put brown sugar on my oatmeal now instead of Splenda.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I've been using splenda this whole time (basically the whole 1st trimester), mostly in my morning coffee (which I stopped as of 2 days ago due to heartburn). I was never told not to use it so I'm going to try not to
I also know a girl at work who used the "H2O to Go" packets w/splenda I think every day and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy in April.
I don't think it's great for you but hopefully not too damaging if it was used.
