Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
Splenda is derived from sugar. Though it is chemically processed. I am ll for natural things but sugar just doesn't disolve in iced tea which is what I drink if I go out. If I make iced tea at home I use regular sugar. My Dr says its fine but I do try to limit it.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I was told NOT to use this by my ob. Why would splenda be safer than sugar? Sugar is natural, splenda isn't.

Re: Is Splenda safe while pregnant?
I have gestational diabetes and was given a pamphlet from my perinatologist. Here's exactly what it says about artificial sweeteners:
"Saccharin, an artificial sweetener found in sweet 'n low and sugar twin can cross the placenta to the baby. Although it is not known if this causes any problems for the baby, health experts recommend saccharin should be avoided during pregnancy.
Aspartame, also known as nutrasweet or equal, and sucracose or splenda are artificial sweeteners that do not cross the placenta and are considered to be safe to use during pregnancy in small amounts. Talk to your doctor about how much splenda is acceptable during pregnancy."
I eat sugar free ice pops at night (one each day). They have aspartame - but after reading this paragraph I felt safe about it. I wouldn't eat more than that a day though, just in case.
Hope this helps.

I was told NO by my OB too.
Same here, I was told not to chance it since there aren't enough studies done. It really hasn't been around that long.
