Is strength training safe during PG? Some gym questions.
I want to try to get to the gym today with DH, barring extreme exhaustion or nausea. I know that we are not supposed to do anything really high impact (no more hip hop )-but can I still do strength-like weights and the machines? Are there any exercises I should avoid? Also, what is the maximum heart rate I can go up to before I should slow down? I am trying to stick with swimming for cardio, but sometimes my wonderful boobs feel like they are sinking me . I want to do the stationary bike or arc trainer, but I want to make sure I don't overdo it. My sciatica has been miserable and my OB feels that it would be beneficial for me to continue to work out during this pregnancy. Any good workouts to help combat the back pain?
Also, I know we are not supposed to go into the sauna or hot tub, but can I put my feet in and sit on the ledge as long as the steam from the hot tub is not making me feel too hot?
Sorry for the silly questions-TIA!

It's most likely it's fine but I would say check with your dr. first. They will know best

Let me preface this by saying that I am a fat rat b@astard. However, there was a time when I saw the inside of a gym.
If you worked out before your pregnancy, you should be able to work out during but you'll probably have to dial it back.
Weight machines are better for you than free weights (less room for injury). No crunches in your second trimester.

When I do the elliptical, I try to keep my heart rate to 140 and under. As far as strength training, I still do weight training now at 32 weeks. You can not put on muscle while you are pregnant so reps are more important than lbs. I switched to lighter weights and take longer breaks between sets. HTH!

Re: Is strength training safe during PG? Some gym questions.
I would definitely check with your OB first.
As for the heart rate, it's recommended you stay around 140. If you are used to working out hardcore, then you're body is used to it, so you can push it a little higher. I would recommend getting yourself a heart rate monitor if you plan on doing anything that can really elevate it.
But like I said...everyone's different, so please talk to your dr 1st.
You have to be careful about strength training only because your muscles and ligaments become weaker which can cause more of an injury. Where it is safe to do so...just don't OVER do it with heavy weights, etc. Just cut back and modify.
Even though you *think* you can do everything you did before, your body may have other plans
