Is there truth to boys weighing more than girls at birth ???
We are on team , my DS was 9-12 ( at 10 days early) and I went for my 36 week appointment yesterday and my little chubba is already weighing in at 8-4 !!! ( we all know sonos can be off though)....Everyone is saying its definately a because of the size- Me, I don't care either way, after all we went through conceiveing I am that my little one is so HEALTHY !!!...Out of my own curiosity, do you find boys to be bigger, anyone have a big baby that was a girl ??? Its so fun to keep myself guessing

Wow - big difference !!!...My DS they were right on with ( actually under) They estimated him at 9-6 and he was 9-12 the next day ....With this baby, because of my previa, we have had lots of sonos and he/she has been on the big side all along ( went from 83% to 97th%) But they really overestimated your DS - wow !

I always wonder the same. What if you have a boy first and your next to be a girl? I always hear after your first each kid later is bigger.

Mine were both born 4 days before my due date and DD was 8.4 and my DS 1 1/2 yrs later was 8.5. He was 1 1/2 inches longer than her which should be interesting because at 2 yrs old she is in teh 97th percentile for height!

my doctor said this is more true if the 2nd baby is a boy...like if you have 2 girls, the 2nd may be lighter but if you have 2 boys, the second may be heavier
it also depends ALOT on when you go into labor
I had my dd at 39 weeks and she was 9 1/2 lbs,....I can only imagine what my next baby will weigh

Re: Is there truth to boys weighing more than girls at birth ???
Abby was "measuring" close to 8 pounds at her last sono before she was born. She was 6 pounds and 3 ounces. When they told me her stats, I thought they gave me the wrong kid. All of my siblings (3 girls and 1 boy total) were all over 8 pounds with me being the biggest at 9'8". DH and his siblings were in the 7 pound range (I think). We were told she had a very long femur. Makes sense. I am 5'8" and the women in DH's family are all over 5'9". Looks like Abby could be long and lean.

On average boys are heavier than girls at birth...
Check out the infant growth charts. Boys will be a little taller and heavier at any given age...
But it is also true that in subsequent pregnancies you usually have bigger babies too...

I think if you are talking about the children of a specific mother, yes, that woman's baby girls would tend to be lighter than their baby boys.
If you mean in the world in general, I doubt it's true.

Re: Is there truth to boys weighing more than girls at birth ???
My DD was 9 lbs 9 oz and the u/s tech was right on the money.
I do not think that the gender of the abby has anything to do with the weight.

DS also "lost" 3 lbs in one day. DW had a sono in the morning, and they said he was about 9 lbs. DW went into labor that night and delivered a 5lb, 14oz boy....

Re: Is there truth to boys weighing more than girls at birth ???
My DS was 7 lbs 1 oz and born right on time. My friend's daughter was over 8 lbs when she was born. They are 3 weeks apart and at this point she is a little peanut and he is 90 percentile height. So I'm not sure about birth weight, but I get the sense that boys weigh more as time goes on.

Re: Is there truth to boys weighing more than girls at birth ???
i had a
my growth sono at 38.5 weeks said he was measuring 8 lbs. 12 oz. and would be arounf 10 lbs. at birth
i had a c-section at 39.5 weeks and he was a whopping 7 lbs. 10 oz.
so i no longer trust growth sonos for anything, much less as a gender predictor
ETA: my DS does have a large head which might have thrown off the sono measurements but still
