Is this normal? Newborn question
DS is a little over 3 weeks. He won't let me put him down at all! Every time I put him down in the swing, carseat or bouncer he screams and cries! It's getting to the point where I can't even brush my teeth. Anyone else experience this? I am worried that this isn't normal. Plus, my arms hurt. Should I just let him cry? Ugh, I am so confused.

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Hollie, it is totally normal. My DD went through his at around 4 weeks till about 8 weeks. Do you have a sling? My sling is the only thing that worked and really kept me from losing my mind.

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Sounds normal for a lot of newborns. I remember with my DD my DH didn't understand when I said I didn't go to teh bathroom all day. He might like the swing in another 2 weeks or so, don't give up. For now...enjoy naps with him and remember they changed drastically in the next few weeks!

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
It's totally normal Nikolas wanted to be held ALL the time the first 3 months practically (and he was colic also so even holding him he'd scream.. a LOT )
He hated his swing, didn't like the bouncy seat until much later, and generally aside from napping did NOT want to be put down. It was so hard to do anything and there were many days I never got to shower, etc, because he was in my arms.
Some babies just need their Mommy's comfort/warmth in those first weeks and months more than others. He'll grow out of it, they all do. For now SLEEP when he sleeps and take breaks whenever you can.
And I know you don't want to hear him cry -- but if you need to go to the bathroom for example, then just plop him in the bouncy for a few minutes anyhow..... he'll be ok. It's hard to hear them cry, I know, but you have to do what you have to do

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
No advice, but wanted to give you some hugs cause I'm sure it's not easy
Have you tried the baby bjorn? My niece was the same way and that was her lifesaver, she vaccumed and cleaned while having her in the bjorn.

Yes. At this stage he is becoming more aware of his surroundings and changes in things like light, heat, touch.

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Normal. I don't think I brushed my teeth the first few months he was born. (okay, I did it once DH got home, so it wasn't NEVER)
I spent many nights with him cradled in my arms, on the boppy, with us both in the recliner. It was the only way either one of us would get sleep. I also remember nursing him while doing #2 in the middle of the night . It was the only way I could go to the bathroom and keep him quiet so DH could get some rest for work.

For a few of my friends, this was a lifesaver for them.

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
I guess all babies are different...I would definitely get the sling and wear him all the time then. its good for them too and I think eventually he'll get used to going in the swing, etc.

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Sounds normal, I didn't put my son down for almost six months, I don't know how we got any sleep...
I leaned to have a wee holding him... I wish I could have that tiny baby back! Wah!

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Thanks for the fast replies everyone. I am just about in tears because I was convinced this isn't normal. Once I hold him, he generally stops crying (he's asleep on my chest as I type this). The only way I can sleep is with him in my arms. i keep trying to put him down whenever i can. He cried for about 10 minutes today while I showered. I have a Baby Bjorn but it says he needs to be 8 lbs, which he isn't yet. I may try it anyway.
Thanks again, ladies. I truly appreciate it. I am just so confused and tired right now.

Oh boy.. This is sooooooo true.
Enjoy every single moment with him Holliie. When your back at work sitting at your desk starting aimlessly at your computer like I have been doing this past week, you will want nothing more in this world then to hold your baby in your arms.
Trust me when i say this because I felt the way you did.
Its so normal & so bittersweet

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Totally normal.
When Alex first came home all he wanted to do was sleep which was great. Then all of a sudden all he wanted was to be held. A few times I called DH at work crying because their was nothing I could do to console Alex. Then he was back to being calm and a happy little guy.
Aidan is still adjusting to life on the outside. Everything is new and sometimes scary to him. It's all ok. We've all been there and it does get easier

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
that was me, and my DS was diagnosed w/ acid reflux. as soon as I would put him down he would scream his head off!
ETA this started when DS was about 2 wks and it just got worse and worse to the point where I felt it was not normal. My DH or myself would have to have him sleep on our chest or in our arms . it got to the point where I would cry too!!
eta: i would not let him cry at this point. I did not let him cry and I"m glad I didn't bc I would feel really guilty bc something was wrong

I was going to suggest the same. I have that one and it puts DS to sleep and gives me free arms to brush teeth, wash bottles, etc.

Yes, Ds was the same way. He was not happy in the carriers or slings either. Things got better around 8 weeks. Hang in there!

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
As every single poster above me has said, yes, it is totally normal . At 12 weeks, my newborn is FINALLY ok in the swing! In fact, he is sleeping peacefully in there right now. That isn't to say that I didn't have to carry him everywhere yesterday! Every day is a new day
I have this sling and I really love it (the "tail" on mine is not so long). it took me a little bit to get comfortable but I love it now

Hollie... Where do you live? I have this one, and I used it about 5 times.... She's too big for it now, but it helped me a lot!

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Very normal. And no, you won't spoil him by carrying him! Cailen is the most independent little boy, and I didn't put him down ever. Even when I asked on here if I would spoil him if I held him all day!!!

Re: Is this normal? Newborn question
Thanks everyone. This has made me feel better. DS is actually asleep in the carseat right now! We just keep trying.
We live in Middle Village, Queens. I hope today is a better day. Don't get me wrong... I love him and love holding him. It's just that I need to put him down and eat or pee or put socks on!
