is this possible? dilation question

I just had my checkup and I'm 3 cm dilated and the baby's head is really low. Chat Icon

However, I'm not in active labor. I still contract a bunch, but no different than I've been contracting since 30 weeks. Is it possible that I could be stuck like this past my due date?! I have 8 days left until my due date. Argh! Chat Icon

I wouldn't think you'll go past your DD but I guess you never know.

I know there were a couple BTDT moms (was it Cakes, HBul?) that were dilated that far for several wks though.

What does your MD think?

Think of it this way, you're nearly halfway there! Chat Icon

Thanks for the link to your old post! I sincerely hope I'm not stuck like this for too much longer. It's making it that much harder to deal with chasing after DS! The OBs keep telling me that I most likely won't make it to my next appointment, yet I keep coming back week after week Chat Icon

Have they discussed induction yet? I can only imagine what it feels like to be halfway through labor and still running after a toddler - I bet I'll find out next month! Chat Icon

ETS: If it makes you feel any better, I had DS 9 days after that post last year.
36w appt - 1 cm and 90% to almost fully effaced
37w appt - no change
never made it to 38 wk appt (I gave birth the morning of the day I was supposed to have that appt)

The OB said they wouldn't consider induction until my next appointment. I think both the OB and I would rather that I go naturally. Because I'm already contracting (though not regularly) I wouldn't need any meds (no cervadil/pitocin/etc.) They'd simply break my water and let nature take its course. A part of me is still leaning towards an induction though so that I can schedule someone to watch DS at home while I'm away.

That's the temptation for me as well. I'd like to go drug free but would like the controlled environment so I don't have to stress over where DS will be. Hopefully it'll take care of itself for you!

Re: is this possible? dilation question

yuppp. I walked around at 3.5cm, contracting every 5-7 minutes, and 80% effaced for 3 weeks before my water broke.

I sat on 3cm for almost 3 weeks. I think Hbugal sat on 4cm's.

Instad of induction - which I don't think you'll need, why don't you ask for them to strip your membranes at your next visit? I bet anything you'll go into labor that night. Bring it up to them.

Re: is this possible? dilation question

I don't know how you should interpret this but I was dialated several weeks b4 my EDD and then I still proceeded to be 11 days past my EDD however I had NO contractions so maybe that makes a big difference, IDK?

Re: is this possible? dilation question

I've been out shopping non-stop, nesting, and eating tons of spicy food! I guess I'll ask about getting my membranes stripped next. I forgot about that Chat Icon

Thanks for the answers/reality check. It looks like my little girl has made herself too comfy in there!
