is this rude?

Ok, the account manager I work with from our ad agency e-mailed myself and two co-workers inviting us out for a Christmas lunch. The agency is in NJ and the account mgr and two of her co-workers (who I do not even know) are coming out to take us. She is pregnant and due right exactly when I would have been due had I not had a m/c...needless to say, it's been rough speaking to her on the phone since I try to avoid asking her about her pregnancy b/c I know I will break down. I accepted the lunch invite b/c I was afraid that if i said I can't make it, they will re-arrange the dates. My plan is to at the last minute say I can't go....is that rude? My two co-workers will still be going. I just don't think I can bear to be around her without wanting to cry. I know I will keep thinking that I would have been in that same place. I just need a good excuse as to why I can't go.....I can't really say I'm too busy, but I was thinking of saying I had a drs appt at lunch or whatever...

Thanks for letting me vent.....

So you really think they'd be offended even if two of the three of us show up?

it's tough to say because i don't know them

but i think they'll be fine that 2 of the three show up

they might just wonder how and why you backed out last minute when this was a long standing plan, assuming they made the plan in advance and checked to make sure everyone was available

Does the girl know about your miscarriage. Maybe you could tell her that during the holidays you are having a rough time.. If not last minute say you are sick, and can't come.

Thanks for the advice everyone. No, I am not close enough to tell her about my m/c. she is strictly a business associate. I am going to see how I feel. I do now have a cold so I might be telling the truth when I say I don't feel well!!
