Is this rude?

Person A and person B are going to play in the city. Person A is supposed to drive in with Person B as a passenger. Person A calls person B minutes before they are supposed to leave and says the AC isn't working in her car and asks Person B if they can use her car to drive in. Person B's car is brand new and she says no, I don;t want to drive it into the city, we will just roll up the windows and take your car, it will be fine. Half way into the city Person A's car stops driving ( the lack of AC was an indicator that something was wrong). They end up missing the play, spending hours waiting for a tow truck etc Do you think Person B was selfish in rude in not driving or car in when she heard Person A's air-conditioning wasn't working. edited with two facts I forgot: 1. person A had already prepaid for a parking lot near the showorld ( $20) 2. Person A had to pick up a pet from a vet not far from the theater and wanted to transport it home in the car.

Agreed! Not rude, just all around sucks. Although with the way the weather has been I would've rather taken the train into the city than a car with no A/C. And that's saying something!

I think it's stupid. I never understood people who get brand new cars and then are scared to drive it anywhere or put miles on it.

The best option would have been to hop on a train I guess. Sitting in this heat with the windows up is insane. I would have vetoed that

I agree - it's kinda selfish because you have a brand new car and sure, it's your prerogative not to drive it, but myself nor any of my friends would ever decline to drive if something was wrong with the drivers car. Especially if a B'way show is on the line.

Just as an aside - contact the theater. I know of a few times people have missed plays (not for any big reason, one couple thought the tix were for a different date) and the theaters were really accommodating. Gave them tix to another date (although it's usually a weeknight/not premium time). Might be worth a shot

This. I don't blame the person for not wanting to drive a brand new car into the city but I would have suggested taking the train instead.

Is this rude?

I would have suggested taking the train if I did not want to drive my car.

I however would have drove my car in and parked in a garage. It would have been fine. Why have a new car and not want to use it.

I do not think it was rude just a little selfish.

Re: Is this rude?

I get that some people don't want to drive in the city. Totally.

But this ended up being a huge lose-lose situation. The train would've been a compromise if time permitted.

Side note - what show? It it's one my company handles, I may be able to help you get a new set of tickets if you have had trouble with that.

Not rude. There's no way either people could know that the car would break down on the way to the city. Things happen, life happens. Everyone is safe and uninjured. Let's keep things in perspective. Unused theater tickets can usually be turned in for another show.

Re: Is this rude?

Not rude, because it is my prerogative if I want to drive my car or not. There may be good reasons, there may be selfish reasons but if it's my car it's my business.

If I were Person A I could understand how they would think this all would have been avoided if Person B drove. But woulda, coulda, shoulda...

I hope the tickets can be replaced.

Re: Is this rude?

Yea, I do think it was pretty rude. If Person A was nice enough to offer to drive Person B then Person B should've been nice enough to offer Person A a ride if she was having car trouble. I think it was pretty selfish and rude to not offer to drive because she has a "new car". So what??...........cars are meant to be driven. Give me a break.Chat Icon

ETA - Put aside that the car broke down because that was unforeseeable however, in these VERY HOT summer temps how utterly ridiculous to not offer to drive when your car has working A/C. NO way in hell I'd sit in someone's hot box and melt all the way into the city. Yuck.

Let me start by saying that I cannot understand why anyone would want to drive into the city. Thus, if Person B was not willing to drive her car, they should have taken the train.

Re: Is this rude?

Personally I don't drive in or into NYC.
So new car or not, the answer would be no.
I would have suggested the train over a car with no AC though.
to me, mass transit is always the better option than driving in NYC
Always

LOL. That is what I just posted before reading your response.
I was talking about this at work the other day- I think personal cars should be banned in NYC.
The traffic is such a nightmare as it is- way too many cars.
Take the train

Ugh, tell me about it. DH and I drove back from Maryland on Tuesday and I think we were in Manhattan longer than anything. It was HORRIBLE.
