Is three months too early for CIO?
Paxton wakes around 2-3am whiny not really crying excessively. Usually I'll make him a 6oz bottle (change him although he's not really wet) he drinks about an ounce and passes back out. Is he too young to just let him whine a bit and hope he goes back to sleep?

I think if it is a sleepy whine then it's OK to see if he puts himself back to sleep, but if he actually gets crying then I would get up for him. I think 3 months is a little young for CIO.

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
I think it's ok to let him fuss a little, but full CIO, I think hes a little young...I've read that you should start around 6 months

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
My ped suggested CIO at 2 months...
I couldn't do it then, but did it at 3 and 1/2 months...

ITA as well. If he is just whining or whimpering for 5-10 minutes, I would leave him, but I think 3 months is too young for full out CIO.

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
Sounds like he just needs soothing, not that he is hungry. Does he take a binky? If not maybe just a belly rub....no diaper change, no picking up might do the trick!

3 months is too young IMO.
I wouldn't even consider it before 6 months but it wasn't necessary for us to try until DD was 11 months.

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
My ds does this once in a while and he is around the same age as your ds.
I let him cio for no more than 10 mins before picking him up and rocking him back to sleep.
if the rocking doesnt work, i make a 2oz bottle. before he drinks an ounce, he is back to sleep.
I think it is the sucking that they want- and it is different than the paci.

EXACTLY. He doesn't really take a binky or suck his thumb but he definitely wants to suck. Thanks ladies.

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
I did CIO at 2 months - only at night, daytime plenty of attention and hugs and all. I know some would disagree with me, but now she's an amazing sleeper. Since then - if she wakes up its for a good reason. I plan on doing it again around the same time with #2.

Re: Is three months too early for CIO?
Everything I have read says no younger than 6 months. Before that, you are still building trust with them, and they need to know that you will help them when they cry. Also before 6 months, when they cry, they really do need you for some reason (food, diaper change, company, etc.). Children younger than 6 months can't usually self soothe either, so I would not do it before that.
