Is your daycare closer to your home, your work or your DH's work?

Currently my mom watches DS but we will be moving next year. We will need to put DS in daycare. I don't know if I should look for places close to our future home, DH's work or my work.

Day care is 3 blocks from my job. Its great. If he gets sick, hurt, etc I can run over very quickly. I like it this way that way if something happens he isnt without me for long. Dh works in Manhattan so any issues that arise with DS fall on me to care of

Home. We both work in the city & the last thing we'd consider is schlepping them to work on a day when we have off or we're sick...and trust me you will get sick once you have kids.Chat Icon

DH & I work 5 miles apart. We are planning on sending DD to daycare near work so we can get there w/in 15 minutes TOPS if she gets sick or something.

Re: Is your daycare closer to your home, your work or your DH's work?

Abby's day care is en route to work but MUCH closer to home (maybe 7 miles from home). We picked closer to home for one good reason. If Abby had medical emergencies, I wanted her to be near her doctors and the hospital of my choice. If I had her in day care near work, she would be closest to some of NYC's (specifically Brooklyn) worst hospitals. G-d forbid she ever had to be in overnight, I'd want her to be closer to home. Call me paranoid, but things happen. We have enough family close to where we live that could be with her if I couldnt get home fast enough.

One of the first questions I asked the day care director when we signed up was "Which is the closest hospital that an ambulance would take the children to if they needed to go?" It is my hospital of choice.

Daycare is closer to home. Originally I wanted it to be closer to work so I didn't have to leave as early and battle traffic, but none of the ones near my office were open past 5:30. When I have night meetings, DH picks DS up and he would have to leave work way too early to get there by 5:30. We found ones closer to our home that were open later.

My DD's daycare is closer to my office, but I wish it was closer to home. It is nice if I need to run over there during the day to have her so close by, but at the same time it would be much easier if DH was able to drop her off in the mornings etc. Unfortunately the daycare options by my house are limited and extremely expensive. I am saving over $400 a month by having her in daycare by my office.

Re: Is your daycare closer to your home, your work or your DH's work?

about 2 mins from work so this way if something happens I can be there ASAP. Plus, I want to know I can come in and check on him at lunch since he's only an infant (till I see he's adjusting). He's starting in a few weeks, but I look forward to my drives going and coming home with him.

DH is a contractor so he's all over the place and works in a big, dirty truck. Mason won't be allowed to be in there since it's a truck and filled with DH's work stuff so it works out he's close to my work

I have about a 45 min commute on the southern state. DS is in daycare 10 min from work.

This way, he is in daycare about 1 1/2 to 2 hours less a day. Hes with me in traffic both ways, rather than at daycare. And if there is an emergency, I am close by.

My daycare is a two minute walk from my home. My DH has an office about a block away from our home, but also works a lot in the courts in downtown Brooklyn. I chose the daycare specifically because of its proximity to my home.

Closer to home. Daycare is about 1 minute away. I did look at ones closer to work but I really liked this center the best. I also like that I'm meeting other mothers & DS is making friends that are in our neighborhood.

DD's daycare is closest to our home, but isn't too far from work...if we move west when we find a house, it will likely be about 1/2 way between work and home.

I didn't want to have to drive all the way towards work if DD was going to daycare on a day I wasn't going to work. And it's nice to pick her up and only be 7 minutes from the house!

Re: Is your daycare closer to your home, your work or your DH's work?

Closer to home.

We used to use one that was closer to work (we work across the street from each other). The plus side was that we were close in case of emergency, we could pop over on lunch, we could all ride in together.

We moved her to the program closer to home and I was initially a little worried. However, it's worked out really well. She is in the car less so less danger to her (though I miss her company on the commute). She's is meeting kids who live in our neighborhood, some of whom she'll go to school with her whole life. If we are sick, we can still get her to daycare fairly easily. We are near her doctors, etc.

Home is also a good option if you work in different areas and will split drop off/pick up.
