It amazes me how many people don't wash their hands after using the bathroom

So I work at a small company.
There are 2 ladies rooms- each only have a toilet and a sink- no stalls.
The one I use is the less popular of the 2 for whatever reason.
There are days where I'm the only one who uses it (which is fine with me!)

So anyway, this morning I go in and notice I'm the first to use it. The toilet still has the blue stuff in it that the cleaning person uses, the seat is up, the trash can is empty. So I use the bathroom, wash my hands and throw my paper towel in the empty trash can.

An hour or so later, I'm walking by and see another woman coming out. I know she used the toilet because I hear it flushing as she is leaving. Fine.
I go in a few minutes later for my second trip of the morning (I drink a lot of water!) and lo and behold- in the trash is my lonely little paper towel from earlier... no indication that this woman washed her hands after using the toilet.
Ewww!

As I come out- someone else is just heading in. (Busy day for my little bathroom! )
I just went in there again now- and sure enough- just my 2 paper towels from earlier are in the trash.

So this SECOND person also didn't wash, I assume. (Unless she was just going in to check her makeup or something)

But I just have a feeling this is more prevelant than we think.
And it's nasty if you think about it...

we have one bathroom with 3 stalls and 3 sinks at work. i am SHOCKED at how many times i go in to use the bathroom as someone is coming out of a stall and leaves without washing their hands!

it is very very gross and i especially hate when i can see their shoes and i know who didn't wash up

I'm also shocked by this. Either that, or I've seen women in our ladies room who just run the tips of their fingers under the water for a half a second, no soap or anything. Why even bother then?

And you would think- when there was someone else in there- that they would at least be SHAMED into doing it... that is ballsy!!!!

i always wash my hands. but i dont always dry them with th papertowels

We have a common bathroom that we share with the floor and I see it so often!

I personally love the 'fake out'. They turn on the water like they are going to wash, don't bother even getting their hands wet and then towel off. I just don't understand why you would take the time to go through the motions without actually washing?

I also see people fix their hair or make up without washing. It skeeves me out SOOOO badly that they are running their pooty hands through their hair!!!



ETA: I do try not to be judgemental - but washing your hands after you use the toilet is really basic respect for yourself and for the people you come in contact with daily.

just to throw it out there, I usually walk out of the bathroom with my paper towels STILL drying my hands b/c I HATE HATE HATE residual wetness on them and I don't feel like standing around the bathroom while I wipe off my hands.

so perhaps she, like I, threw them in a trash receptacle other than the one in the bathroom.

i have to agree its nasty to not wash your hands,

i wash my hands and grab a papertowels and dry my hands on my way to my desk, bc our bathroom is so cold, i dont want to stay in there 1 minute longer then i have to, so maybe they are like me

There are a couple of people in my office that keep that antibacterial stuff on their desk since their hands get dirtied up touching the handle anyway - they just use that. Maybe that's what these ladies are doing.

As long as you wash your hands, there's not much more you can do to keep germ free.

ITA. It is skeevy, especially in certain instances

My bathroom has a hand sanitzer dispenser mounted on the wall. I hope the women who aren't washing are at least using that!

i keep hand sanitizer at my desk, because not for nothing, but by touching the faucet handles, you are touching the UNWASHED germs from those that do wash their hands...and then the door....same thing.

i try to touch as little as i can in a bathroom and never wash my hands in there (unless i don't have my purse with me, which again, pocket sized hand sanitizer is in there). I don't touch the door handles either, i use my shirt....or will grab a paper towel so i don't have to touch it.

i'm not a germophobe, but most bathrooms are GROSS to walk into...

I see it all the time. I'm a germaphob and I won't even touch the door to leave without paper towels since I KNOW people don't wash their hands and have to touch the handle. I don't touch the papertowel thing either, I take some towels before I start washing my hands then I use the clean towels to shut the water off and to get more towels without having to touch that stuff.

I know I go over board, but hey-I never get sick and I love when people look at me like I have 10 heads

I know another LIF'er who does the same thing!

To the OP, I know when I wash my hands I take the Paper towel with me. Dont ask why just habbit so maybe they do the same. to the poster Im quoting. You need thincker skin if this is making you .




this is nothing compared to the old LIF.

Keep in mind I'm playing devil's advocate here, but maybe these particular people have extremely dry hands that can become exacerbated when washed too often. I have this problem and I drink a lot at work. Therefore, I go to the bathroom almost every hour. Because I'm a little OCD I wash my hands and then have to moisturize immediately afterward. Of course, because my hands are so dry I still suffer the consequences. The only reason I wash them is because I'm paranoid about getting sick.
