Well you might be a big girl but obviously not to smart if you would open your front door for strangers..
Not smart? was that necessary? I too do not get a whole lotta "strangers" coming to my doors to feel fearful about opening it. Sure i get the occasional Fed Ex man but I HAVE TO open the door to sign for the packages. That doesn't make me unintelligent. I dunno. I live in a relatively safe neighborhood and nobody has had any problems here.
IMO crap happens. You can't plan for everything at every given moment. And there is no sense in living you life on the paranoid side
ETA...wher are all these posts about people opening their door to strangers?

what the hell is wrong with opening the door to strangers?!?! strangers are just people you havent met. i'm sure if someone looked suspicious, or if it were at an odd hour i wouldnt answer the door. but i mean, to basically call someone stupid b/c they open the door to strangers, thats is just dumb to me. bad stuff can happen ANYwhere at ANYtime... most bad things do not occur from someone knocking on your door.
to me.... opening the doors to strangers is not much different than answering the phone when you dont recognizr hte number or talking to 'strangers' on hte computer in a forum!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: It surprises me..
LOL...This is fuuny even though Im sure it was not meant to be, but most of us are ADULTS and like I posted, I dont get too many strangers at my door, nor have I heard of anyone being hurt recently who has...
I dont think people should live in a state of fear and panis when the UPS guy comes a knockin at the door....

Re: It surprises me..
Thanks everyone. I think this was in response to my post about my parents answering the door to an ADT salesman. I take offense to them (or anyone else here) being called stupid. I am not even going to justify that with a response. But wanted to say thanks to the rest of you.

Re: It surprises me..
A Sacramento couple had quite a scare and it all started with a knock on the door. The man on the porch claimed he had just hit the couples' car. Reporter Jon Baird says it appears that was just a trick to get the couple outside. Sgt. Dan Hahn says crooks will try anything.
That is why policeurge you not to open the door unless you know the person standing on your porch. The man told the couple he hit their car and then he pulled a gun. A shaken relative said it happened last night on 32nd Street. The suspect apparently made up the story to lure the car owner outside, where he pulled the gun. Relatives say the man's wife closed the front door and yelled that she was calling police and managed to scare the suspect away.
Sgt. Dan Hahn says crooks will try anything.
Sgt. Dan Hahn / Sacramento Police Department: "You could use anything to get somebody to open the door. I've run out of gas, I need a couple of bucks, or I hit your car, or something is wrong with the front of your house. Could you come outside? And the bottom line is, in this day and age, if you don't know the person at your front door...not only should you not open it, but if you feel something suspicious about it, you should call us."
Just to add,, I was NOT talking about fed ex workers and I know its hard to not open it ALL the time, but everyday on the news i see stories like this one. With 2 young children, if I dont know the person I DONT open the door. I was not trying to be mean, I dont even know anyone here.. if the wrong words came out I am very sorry.

Re: It surprises me..
Thanks for editing your post. Your right this is a scary world we live in. We have to take extra measures to be safe but we cant live in a bubble either.
It is sad though how vulnerable we are in this crazy society.

Re: It surprises me..
And what happens if a telephone worker need to fix something? Or the LIPA man? Or ANY person coming to your house to fix, install or repair something. THEY ARE ALL STRANGERS!
If someone is going to hurt you and wants to hurt you...THEY WILL. Looking through a screen door ain't going to help much

Re: It surprises me..
Im not perfect either.. I said i know its hard not to open it all the time. Some phone service ppl came to my door a few weeks ago wanting to give me a sales pitch about why I shold change to their service, thought it was stange so I didnt open the door. Thats what I mean. As a mom, I try to do the best I can. I know god forbid it can be a fake fed ex person that can harm ppl too but like I said.. I do the best I can.

Re: It surprises me..
When lipa or cablevision come to the door and I DIDNT have an apt I will call them first and make sure they are soposed to be in my area. I mean, there is no reason for cablevision to be knocking on my door for no reason.. There is no reason to attack me for saying with 2 young kids in the house I am careful who I open the door for is there? I already appologized for how I spoke before. There is no need to make me feel bad for doing the best I can to protect my family.

Re: It surprises me..
we do need to be careful.
I do not answer the door to strangers.
My friend's uncle answered the door when a "clean cut looking man" knocked.
He was then robbed, shot, and killed.
Also, when I was a child, someone posing as a cable man knocked on my door. I opened the door, but the chain was on it. I told him that he would have to come back later when my mother was home.
2 weeks later, that person was arrested and sentenced to jail time for raping someone else in the area.
So, I never answer the door.

No. 1 You are an a$$ No. 2 If people want to get in your house they will break down the door or break a window. Go be paranoid about that now!
