From the sound of it, I think it was the formula. If it was a stomach bug, she would have thrown up the pedialiyte they gave her in the hospital. Usually takes a good 24 hours for a bug to work its way through the system...Hope she is feeling better.

Poor Emma and poor YOU!!!
Who knows what it was, but thank goodness she's going to be ok.
Powder formula is not sterile, so perhaps there was a bacteria of some sort in it.Chat Icon

wow. I am sure it was sooo tough to watch her go through those tests. I am glad nothing serious came back.

Maybe it was a bug, i think something is going around.

Jess, I'm no doctor but to me it sounds like she can't handle whatever kind of formula you are giving her now, since it's fresh every time..and I'm sure you are using filtered water....I would bring her to the ER again to be on the safe side Chat Icon

Ugh Jess! Your poor woman! I will tell you that Reilly has reflux- still at 11 months but it is not severe projectile like Emma. We switched her formula to Similac Sensitive RS at 2 months old and though the spitting up did not stop, it seemed to get a little better. Like the other girls have suggested, I would bring her back to the hosp (if poss. in NJ, where shiit gets done fast) and ask them to test her for a soy allergy. Actually, while you're at it, have them test her for all allergies if that's possible (not sure how it works.) Regardless if you are using filtered water or not, I think Emma sounds like she is allergic to this formula. Did she have an issue with reg formula? Why did you guys switch to soy? I hope it gets better. At least they ruled out pyloric stenosis. Hang in there sweetie! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

yes - she had an issue with the regular formula - she did THIS....the vomiting. it stopped completely when we switched to soy....

she just took some pedialyte and so far has kept it down..

i'm not using formula from a can - each bottle is made with one of those pre-made sleeves of formula...

i thought originally that was the issue....

its sounds like a soy allergy. I think your next step is to look into neocate formula.

Re: It was a LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG night...and VERY LONG post! (bad update Friday in OP - reflux moms or any other - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!)

I don't really know what to suggest to you. I'm just sorry you're going through this. I know how frustrating it can be to try to get & keep food into a baby who keeps "refunding" as we like to call it. My DD also has severe reflux, to the point of it causing lack of weight gain. But it was never projectile, so I don't really have much experience with that or know what it could be. If it were just reflux, I don't see them putting her in the hospital. I swear there were times that I swore she was spitting up every ounce that she drank, but it just looks that way. Try not to be scared. I think that if she were really spitting up everything, that her belly would be hurting from being empty and she'd be crying.

I also saw your other post about the Nutramigen. First off, I think the AA is just a newer formulation. You should be able to find it in the regular places. I'm pretty sure I saw it in Target. Also, if her vomiting is due to an intolerance to the formula, it probably will not be better in 1 feeding or even in 1 day; maybe not even 1 week. If it is due to an intolerance, it can take a while for whatever she didn't tolerate to completely leave her system.

Most importantly, try to keep calm -- I know easier said than done. They will find out what is wrong and they will help her.

I hope she's doing better soon!! I'm actually hoping that she just has a little virus and this will all pass soon... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
ETA: maybe you can try just feeding her 1 ounce at at time, like every hour. If it is "reflux" putting less pressure in the belly, with less formula often helps reduce the reflux. It helped my DD to an extent.

ETA: did you try keeping her upright for like 30mins after feeding? I also find that if I put my DD in a "sitting" position, she spits up ALOT more because of the pressure on her belly.

ETA 1 more: reflux usually peaks right around 3 months old. So maybe you are at the worst part of it? Hopefully it will get better soon! Chat Icon
