It's never dull around here....w/ a few questions

I don't know how much more I can take before I lose it, between the lip splitting last week, and now this! UGH!

Today Jack and I were on the way to my first doctors appt for the baby and we had a few errands to run. Went to BBB then to go pick up favors for my moms party. Right as we were pulling up to get the favors I hear him coughing in the carseat. I turn back and he is covererd in puke. I pull over on Jericho Tpke as fast as I can and he is still throwing up ALL OVER HIMSELF.

I proceed to jump out of the car and have no clue where to start with him. I take him out and strip him down to his diaper -- ON JERICHO TPKE for godsakes Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I clean out the carseat as best as I can without throwing up in it myself, and throw him back in the car to go to the favor girls store. I bring one naked Jack into the store and clean out the rest of the car.

It was horrible to see him sick like that - but it was soooooo horrible to clean that up. UGH! This is what I get for laughing at SweetCaroline when she posted about her adventure with Ryan, and I actually did think to myself "I should keep some spare clothes in the car"

So - here are my questions:
What should I feed him for dinner that won't upset his stomach some more?

How the hell do I clean out the Britax Marathon and make sure that stench is out of the carseat? I will buy another one if I have to - I cannot take that smell for one more second.

Can I still give him his milk before bed?

Oh, and I never made it to the doctors appt so now I have to wait till next week!!!

I think that's all for now!
Thanks for reading!

Oh no Diana!!!!!!! Chat Icon

I would take the cover off and wash it. If it were me I'd wash it 2 or 3 times b/c you are sensitive to smell.

I would probably go with the BRAT diet and no milk before bed.

Hope this was just a one time puke and not a virus!!!!

Ok, first off, I'd stick to toast or oatmeal or something to that effect so he has something in his belly, but not anything that will that will upset it further.

Secondly, I would skip the milk before bed, maybe give him reallllly watered down apple juice.

Never a dull moment, huh?Chat Icon

Oh no! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with the BRAT diet for tonight, and I'd probably skip the milk (unless he's really dependent on it).

No idea about the stench, but I have faith you can get out the smell and NOT have to buy a new one! Chat Icon

Hope Jack is feeling okay now! Chat Icon

story of my life...except my ds pukes 1-4 times every f*ing day!Chat Icon it's amazing how you get used to the smell.

just remove the carseat cover and wash it 2 x with some extra detergent and it'll be as good as new.

i'd give him some bread, cherrios, banana, oatmeal, etc.. maybe try 1-2 oz. of milk at a time and see how he does if you really want to give it to him. otherwise stick with water/juice or pedialite.

gl!

I'm sure plain cheerios are fine. Do you have any rice cereal left over? Maybe try that? I think you could try oatmeal too

The SAME thing happened to us, but thankfully I had my DH in the car to help when it happened. We also happened to have some extra clothes in the car because we were coming back from a trip to PA to see my parents (otherwise I never usually have extra clothes with me). The smell was horrifying. We took all the material off the Britax and washed it in the washing machine....it took most of the smell away, and then DH febreezed my whole car.

I totally feel for you though! DD had been eating a lot of strawberries when it happened to us, so the vomit was BRIGHT red and it just coming and coming...ugh!

Diana this happened to Ale when we were in Spain. Stripped down to a diaper in the Barrio Santa Cruz!!

We washed the carseat cover, and hosed down the seat itself with soap outside. Took the (rental thank God) car to the car wash.

The smell thankfully came out with one washing.

Hope Jack is feeling better!

If you have trouble getting the smell out of the car (if he actually hit the car itself and not just his carseat) go to petco and get the odor eliminator that you can use for animal urine smells. My stepson threw up in my car and that was the only thing that got the smell out-after washing the seats with detergent and febrezing it over and over again! Good luck!

Um, what the heck??? DD JUST threw up all over her crib (and on the floor) about an hour ago!!!!!!! Had to strip EVERYTHING off-- bumper, bedskirt, sheets, rug is out on the front porch...she was walking around (apparently fine afterwards, weird) saying "ewwwww" with a nasty face on-- lol!

I totally feel your pain about throwing up in the carseat, DD did that on the way home from work one day, it was horrible and the stench was horrific. Scrub it as best as you can-- at least it's cold out tonight and it won't fester in hot weather. Oh, and I had to put her BACK into the puke-covered carseat to take her to the ped's office- that was NASTY!

Don't forget to wash the carseat straps. You can only use mild soap and water so that you don't throw off the chemicals that are on them to make the straps fire resistant though. I usually have to wash them with a sponge at least 5x before getting the smell out.

Re: It's never dull around here....w/ a few questions

Kaitlyn did that to us right before New years - she vomited all over her car seat and all over the place it was a horrible mess I felt so bad for her - and had a hard time not getting sick myself with my bad pregnant gag reflex.

I washed the seat as best as I could and I took a mixture of vinegar and water to wash the straps and it took care of the smell. We were able after really scrubbing the seat to get the smell out.

The ped said to hold off for a bit on fluids until she didn't vomit for 1-2 hours in the beginning - then to give pedialyte in small sips at a time. He said to hold off on food until she hadn't vomited for 6-10 hours and was asking for it. Also NO milk or dairy products until no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours.

Also stick to a brat diet when you do start - my ped suggested:
Rice
crackers
plain toast
VERY mushy carrots
ripe (NOT underripe) bananas
when the rice and broth stay down you can try some plain (NO butter or oil) scrambled eggs.

Drinks he suggested pedialyte and some ginger ale that is flat (stir out the bubbles). No juice and doesn't recommend water b.c unless they are eating they aren't getting anything from the water except some fluids and they need electrolytes.

I hope it is a quick bug - DD had it for 10 days.
