It's official, DS is scheduled for surgery
I know that hernia surgery is a minor procedure, but putting him under is freaking me out. I want to throw up. I seriously don't know how any of you have had a child go in for major surgery.
His surgery is scheduled in a few weeks and I can't handle this wait. They said one of us will go in with him and hold him while they put him under. I don't know if I can do that. But I can't imagine NOT being the one to do it. I am a wreck right now. He's my baby. 
I am happy this is finally getting taken care of. I hate having to 'monitor' him. We aren't doctors and we hate the trips to the ER because we don't know if it's blue enough. 
I need to be sedated til it's over.

I (almost) completely feel your pain & anxiety. DD's procedure is a week from today. She's going under too.  And while it's not a "surgery", I'm still freaked beyond freaked about it.
Who's his urologist? We're using Dr. Wasnick...going to Stony Brook.
He will be fine, hopefully it is harder on you than it is on him.
After DD's procedure next week, I'll try to remember to FM you about our experience with the anesthesia.
ETA: It makes me really, really feel for these poor parents who deal with a child who has a serious illness, or needs lots of surgeries & procedures. Not that I wasn't sympathetic to them always, but this just makes it even more upsetting what they & their little ones go through.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. DS is having surgery in March (when 9 months old) to correct a hypospadia.
It's so nerve wracking.
But, I know your DS will be fine!!! Please let me know if you need anything!

I know how you feel. DS had two hypospaius surgeries. Both times I went in to the OR with him. Honestly you suck it up...go back with him...stay calm....give him a kiss...and then lose it once you leave the OR. Like the other poster said I was just always so happy that it was never anything major. Good luck. Remember he is young and wont remember. If he is anxious in pre-op they can give him something extra...Ds had this the 2nd time around bc he seemed to have a clue as to what was going on and wasnt happy about it. It made the OR much easier for both of us.

I have been through something similar with my son. He needed a small procedure and I was more concerned about the anesthesia. They gave him a sedative and he was laughing since it made him loopy and then DH took him into the OR and they put a mask near his face and he was out, so that they could then do the IV. It was very quick and before you know it he was in recovery. It took him a bit to wake up, but once he fully woke up he was fine.
I was a wreck for the two weeks prior, but as soon as DH said they started I felt a huge sense of relief. I did feel bad that I was not there to bring him in, I felt like his mom should be there, but I would have made him more nervous and not sure I would have been able to remain calm.
Good Luck, it will be over before you know it.
Where is he having this done?
