It's official-update
My nephew is leaving for the army tomorrow. He's going to Georgia for boot camp.
He just announced it to us yesterday. Tonight he is going to say good bye to his dad.
Fred is going to be very upset.
We are all convinced he's not doing it for the right reasons.

I have had friends in the Navy, Marines and the Air Force. I would have to say that it better each and everyone. I wish him a safe duty wherever he is stationed.

I would venture to guess it's less that the recruiter worked extra hard on him and more that he may be looking to escape reality and not have to deal with real life... Neither is the right reason to join, but all you can do know is pray and support him.

Yep, his life kind of blows right now but he's been looking for the quick money for years. He turned down a job with the electrical union that his uncle got him. He was given many chances at really good jobs with great potential and his answer was that it was too hard.
So he thinks that army is not hard. I heard what the recruiter told him. He told him that everything the kid wanted to hear including that in the army there is a lot of downtime. Also that he has more of a chance of getting killed in Merrick than he does in Iraq.
Also after 3 years he's done. Ok, so what if we go to war somewhere else? Is he done?
I know this could potentially straighten the kid out but he doesn't want to work for anything. He thinks life is a free ride.

If he's really doing this for the wrong reasons, and thinks it won't be hard, then he won't make it past boot camp.
Just support him and pray that he becomes a changed man bc of it.

Although it's hard to see it through the pain, he is doing an admirable deed by enlisting and our country is grateful.

I'm sorry his decision is hard on you and your family.
Have faith that the experience of being in the service WILL change him and teach him a lot about life. I hope he has a safe enlistment.

Mom and dad told Fred about it and he was ok wih it. He knows his son and he seemed to be very apathetic about it.
I think he's more concerned with getting out of the facility.
On an good note, they reduced his meds a bit and he seems to be less tired. They moved his room and it's quieter so he's happy.
Now if we can get the prosthesis company out there to do an adjustment then he could use his leg.

wow! that is shocking.
I really hope that he has a CLEAR underdstanding of the decipline and REALLY HARD work that is to ensue.

He's in my prayers as well as your family. I guess the best you can do is be there for him and support him.
I don't think the Army is easy, but, I have never done it, so, cannot say for sure.

Most of the times people dont do it for the right resons. Im sorry ur nephew is leaving but who knows he might be happy with the path he chose!. Good Luck to him

you won't believe this. Now it seems that he's not leaving for the Army..yet.
He's just so unhappy with his living and money situation I think he was doing it to get back at his mother.
I have to say, his living situation stunk and he didn't have enough money to get a car and pay for insurance. Not all his fault but I don't want to go any further with it.
And, of course he's not going to see his father tonight because there's no reason now..??
