Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
I'm copying/pasting from my blog!:
The IUI was pretty simple. They first showed me the sample and made sure the names matched and had me sign a paper confirming that. Then I got undressed from the waist down and in came the nurse. She said my regular RE was doing a retrieval (for IVF) and asked if I wanted to wait or if I wanted the PA to do it. I said the PA could do it - because I had to get back to work, plus - she's very sweet and she's been doing all of my monitoring.
The PA came in and inserted the speculum. That was kind of uncomfortable. Then she holds a syringe filled with the sperm that is attache to a catheter. She threads the catheter through my cervix and into the uterus. There was a little cramping, but nothing major. It was kind of just a weird feeling. Then in go the sperm!
After that, she did an ultrasound and showed me the fluid that contains the sperm and where it was in my body. She confirmed that we had 2 mature eggs and that by 6:30 tomorrow morning I will have ovulated!
She instructed me to start progesterone suppositories (vaginal - for those who don't know!) on Sunday and we scheduled my beta.
And now... we hope, wish, pray, and wait

Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
wow!! thanks.
I dont think they're going to take an ultrasound tomorrow in the ofifce..he's not an RE, just an OB/GYN..but that would be cool if they did.
I do have progesterone pills to take from day 18-28..so i hope that helps!
thanks for the advice!!

Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
Just relax. It is not painful just a little uncomfortable. I took the day off to rest afterwoods, but it is not necessary:)

How did it go?
Ok..i didnt know what to expect with this dr.
hubby came with me to do his sample at the office, which was weird..LOL I waited a half hour after that i guess for them to prep it.
they brought me in and the dr asked what day in my cycle im on. I say 13...he was surprised b/c he said he normally does them between day 17-18. So i now i start getting snippy b/c i've already had issues with this office telling me different things. (my dr. wasnt there..first time im meeting this dr.) I said i was specifically told to come in on day 13 after taking clomid days 4-8. I dont understand why you're telling me this now. I was really agitated to say the least. Im nervous enough as it is. I already have 4 high days on the CBEFM so any day now i'll be peaking and he said that was totally fine to do it now.
so he starts the procedure and it was a tad uncomfortable. I started crying b/c I was all worked up from the conversation, nervous, and now im tense and its making everything more uncomfortable.
Ughh..it was done in 4 minutes. although he had me lay there for a 1/2 hr with the speculum still in (but closed) for whatever reason..i was shivering it was so cold in there. Hubby came in afterwards and stayed with me for the 30 min.
the dr. came back to tell me he looks for 3 things while doing this...one is the stretchiness of the cervical fluid which he said was great. Something else about the fluid i cant recall..theres a term..and the sperm count. Hubby's was off the chart again. Dr. said he's surprised im not pregnant yet...YEAH, U AND ME BOTH DOC...
anyway, he said i was tense and if it doesnt work next month i have to relax.
I almost said go eff yourself about relaxing. easier said than done.
I napped when i got home. im tired, but overall fine and pain free now.
THANK YOU FOR ASKING!!!

Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
Something does NOT sound right about that!
You weren't doing any u/s monitoring or bloodwork to confirm when you O?
Usually if you're not doing a trigger, you'd at least use OPKs and you'd come in AFTER your surge.
It also makes me uncomfortable that he told you to "relax" - is this an ob/gyn or RE?

I agree, some if it sounds odd, but offices are different. I don't know why if you are doing an IUI they are concerned about cervical fluid..an IUI bypasses all of that? not sure. And the relaxing part..I was told I could resume normal activities, including going home and BD'ing!
where do you go?
Good luck too!

Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
its a regular OB/GYN office. I live in Pa now..(moved from brooklyn) so its the dr.'s office at Lower Bucks hospital.
I see the nurse midwife there but the head dr there does the IUI.
I spoke to him last week b/c i was freaking about clomid and no one checking my blood, sonograms, and i got the "clomid pretty much guarantees a follicle, blah blah" which apparently isnt true.
all i know is im completely confused now as to why we were going this route just yet when i havent had the HSG test done (as they were booked and had to postpone to next cycle.)
we at first though hubby had motility issues with his first sa so thats partly why we were going this route. but turns out hubby is just fine.
im beyond confused and i will be looking for a new office in the near future.

Re: IUI tomorrow..advice?
Honestly... I know I've said this to you before. If you are going this route (IUI's/Clomid), you really should switch to a RE. From what you have written, it sounds like your IUI was too early since you had not detected a surge yet on your monitor and you were not being monitored with bloodwork and sonos.
Also, like Patty said, CM should not even be a concern/issue at all since IUI bypasses it.
