IUI's insurance question
Has anyone gone in for a consultation with an RE and then switched insurances and started IUI's? I am terrified of this whole preexisting condition which my wonderful insurance just sent me a letter stating they will not pay if a medical profession recommended treatment be received prior to receiving this insurance???I am flipping out now! Also, I am a patient of Dr.B. Does anyone know the out of pocket cost for IUI's? Thanks!

Re: IUI's insurance question
I believe IUIs cost $450 (each) so back to back would be $900 at Dr.B's. I am pretty sure, but not 100%

Re: IUI's insurance question
Most insurances will cover you for "pre-existing conditions" as long as you began treatment while under another insurance - and you don't have a lapse in coverage between the old and the new plan.
So for example - you start seeing your RE and doing infertility diagnosis/treatment and your insurance ends on 2/28, but the new insurance picks up on 3/1. I would double check with your new insurance just in case - because I know infertility is a tricky area - but I know most "pre-existing conditions" are handled that way.
For me, I lost my job while seeing the RE - doing IUI's - but my husband's insurance picked me up right away and I had no trouble.
Good luck!

Re: IUI's insurance question
Yes...when I first consulted with my current clinic, I was with United/Oxford. By the time I did my IUI at my clinic, I was with GHI. No problems or issues at all with coverage. I had even had an IUI under my United/Oxford coverage at another clinic.

Re: IUI's insurance question
Depending on the type of insurance plan you have, unlimited IUIs are covered under NYS mandate. I think it's if you don't have the plans that have lifetime limits incl. IVF coverage.
Even so, like a PP said, they have to cover pre-existing as long as you were covered previously.

This is the second time I am reading about unlimited IUIs under the NYS mandate. I am told I only get three per year. And doing back to backs one cycle counts as two. Why aren't they following the mandate? I do have IVF coverage. What do I do about this? I have BC/BS.

Re: IUI's insurance question
Thanks for all the responses. I called the billing dept today and they told me to contact my insurance company or I could just start the IUI's and see what happens when they submitted it. I have 6 cycles covered for IUI and ZERO IVF....I hate my insurance!
