I've hit my breaking point...(work related)...
So, I'm sitting here at work, with no clue as to how much longer I'll be stuck here, and then the 1.5 hr commute on top of it. I'm done. I'm miserable. I've been contemplating taking a PT job on LI for much less money, but I think tonight has sealed the deal. I can't take this anymore...All I keep thinking is that I got to see dd for half an hr this morning, and that will pretty much be it all day...
Sorry for the vent - just needed to get it out there somewhere!

Sorry Sounds like you've come to a decision about work; it's hard, I know I've been there. Just do what is best for you and your family.

Re: I've hit my breaking point...(work related)...
i did the NYC commute for too many years....while a part of me misses all the perks and extras my paycheck brought us, they pale in comparison to the hours I get to spend with DS. I found my p/t job on craigslist.

Re: I've hit my breaking point...(work related)...
My previous job was like that Granted I worked on LI, so commuting wasn't an issue.....BUT in the end I ended up getting sloppy & making mistakes that led to my termination. I had a TOUGH time concentrating because of the unknowing end of the day BS where I worked It wasn't occasional either....I worked OT all the time
10 months later I was finally offered a FT job having been so worth waiting for! I am going to be working within the town I live in!!! So maybe there is hope for you too

I would say do it -
Its just not worth the cash. Aggrevation from your work will take a toll on the time you do have with your DC.
I had an awful job when I first got married and It put a damper on a year with my DH because I was so stressed and miserable. Back then I thought it took balls to stay - now I realized it takes just as much courage to walk away. I think you DC is way more important.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I am a teacher (read: the most family-friendly profession there is ), and this past year, I was transferred to a high-need, high poverty school. I love the kids I work with, but the stress level at this school, along with the amount of ridiculous responsibilities placed upon us--it really took its toll on me.
And the part about the stress of work affecting the time you DO have with your DC is absolutely true. Sure, I was home by 4:30 most days, but my patience was thisshort and I was too exhausted and stressed out to actually ENJOY the time. So many times, I saw my kids as a burden because all I wanted to do was sit down and unwind, and I couldn't.
I am currently in the process of trying to transfer schools again. I don't know if it will happen. If it doesn't, I REALLY don't know what I'm going to do, because I know that this time with my DC is time I'm never going to get back...

Thanks Ladies. I'm just very happy today is Friday, so I can get out of here for 2 days...But, I think the PT job is the way to go. Happiness is just so much more important...
Thanks again for listening!

Re: I've hit my breaking point...(work related)...
I am so with you and feel your pain! I work in NYC and the ONLY reason I am still here is we are trying for #2 and my company has a great maternity policy and I can work from home when I need. DH and I have already discussed this, after #2 is born, I am taking a step back for a bit and enjoying my children. I feel like I get no quality time with them. There needs to be more of a balance.
