IVF transfer question
I'm thinking ahead here as we have just really begun this process but during our consult our dr had in her notes that she recommended we transfer 1 or 2 embryos & it would be based on a few factors and of course, how we feel about the possibility of multiples. Just curious how many you transferred or plan to transfer and what went into the decision making process? TIA!

Re: IVF transfer question
For my fresh and 3 FET I've always transferred 2. Unfortunately we are still not preggo!! I was hoping to transfer 3 when I start my fresh cycle once AF arrives but since my new RE does day 5 transfers (blastocyst) he rather just transfer 2.

Re: IVF transfer question
My RE recommended transferring 2 because of my age and we would only do 3 if I only had 3 embryos make it to the day of transfer (so we're not freezing only one). On our 2nd IVF cycle we got pregnant w/ twins!
Good luck

Re: IVF transfer question
My dr never actully discussed it with us. He said you have 2 compacted embies and the rest are lagging so let's transfer both. We were ok because we knew the odds of getting one were better and there was also a chance of twins which we actually hoped for. (one shot deal).

Re: IVF transfer question
For IVF #1, we transferred 2 Day 5 embryos - BFN.
For IVF #2, the doctor recommended 2-3 Day 3 embryos....we will see how that goes in July.

Re: IVF transfer question
Thanks ladies! I have no problem with twins & thought transferring 2 was kind of standard. I was actually more surprised they even suggested 1 I guess we'll see what happens as it gets closer.

Re: IVF transfer question
I have transferred one and two. Its a personal decision. I shouldn't have twins because I have a small uterus and a short cervix. So, we've opted for 1 most of the time. Though after it fails I kick myself for not transferring two. But, there's all this research that says it doesn't up your chances but if one is good and one is bad, what if they choose the wrong one...KWIM? Usually if you are over 35 and have done more than 1 IVF they might suggest putting more than 2 back.

Re: IVF transfer question
I think it depends upon your specific situation and/or problem. Definitely worth the conversation with your doctor regarding the risks of carrying multiples, etc. I think doctors also take into considderation the grade of your embryos and how well they are developing.
I've trasferred no more than 2 grade AA blastocysts 5 specific times, 3 fresh, 2 FET. I have transferred 3 embryos at once for a 3 day transfer but one embryo was lagging behind.

This was us. One piece of advice I have to give though is this... based on all that I have read on LIF and seeing everyone's strruggles, and the length of time it took to get to IVF, I never really thoguht Id get pg at all.. so when we put 2 back, I really though... "maybe" one will stick but I wont be shocked if we end up with nothing. I really didn't think Id end up with twins. Im super excited about it now... but it took a while to get over the shock for me. So depneding on your diagnosis and dr's recommendation, multiples are a very real possibility so try and make sure you are 110% comfortable with it. GL!!

Re: IVF transfer question
We transfered 2 and unfortunately, neither stuck. For us, we had to pay for IVF completely OOP so we wanted to give ourselves the best chance at having a baby. Twins would've meant 2 for the price of 1!
But seriously, I would only transfer 2 back in if you're comfortable with the idea of multiples. Otherwise, transfering the 1 best embryo back and freezing any that make it to blasts are your best option.
