Jan 6th was planned to be violent for weeks
I don't know why this is even being debated. They planned to riot. They did not plan a peaceful protest. Maybe they did not think they would have gotten into the Capitol but they were probably hoping it. They were chanting to get Pelosi, they were chanting to hang Pence. They planned to be disruptive. It is all over Facebook from their own pages. People have seen the posts. Unfortunately I live in a town that houses one of the biggest groups. For those that were not there to be disruptive, they should have left instead of joining those who stormed the Capitol. Every single person that ran up those steps should be tried for Treason.
I don't want to hear about what happened over the summer or what the Left did because that is irrelevant to what happened on the 6th. Burning down store fronts and looting, while absolutely wrong and terrible, is not in the same realm of trying to overtake and disrupt a Government. If BLM were the ones to storm the Capitol we would have had 100s of dead black people on our hands instead of just 5.

There were people wearing t shirts with the date on it under the words Civil War 2020.
This was an inside job.
Well, personally speaking I didn’t think it was planned. The right always said how they wouldn’t riot like the “left” does.
You can have a personal opinion but please know you sound ridiculous. There are videos of the cops letting them in. There are records of requests for reinforcement days before being denied.
Parler, Twitter and Facebook groups were planning this for weeks. There are tons is screen shots out there or if you are on these sites, do your own research.

Understood but no one did a thing when cities were burning and people losing their businesses. None of that was important?

They are different conversations. One has nothing to do with the other. People can't play a one up game. Oh they looted and burned stores, so now I'm going to storm the Capitol. What's next, war? That's a bit dramatic lol but you know what I mean!

Is this a joke? Hundreds of people were arrested. There was tear gas constantly. People were beaten by the cops.
You don’t even know what you are talking about. What city? Who did nothing? How does any of that have to do with white supremacists disrupting democracy and trying to overthrow our government?
I think you should get off the internet and read a book.

Oh I believe me I agree but how can we just ignore looting, rioting, burning down cities?
Oh and Coumo didn’t have the national guard when his own city was going under but he has no problem sending them to DC. All democratic cities.

You are not serious right? Our own city has gone under and people won’t come here as they are scared. Did you miss what went on this summer in cities all over? Not dismissing this week as it was horrible but we can’t just pick and choose horrible people and horrible acts to our country.

Actually, from the posts they are currently circulating, that's exactly what they are planning - war.

We are talking about an attempted overthrow of our government coordinated and encouraged by the president. There is simply NO possible comparison between BLM protests and this insurrection. To say they are anything alike is just tone deaf.
FTR........... You are completely incorrect when you say that nobody did anything in those cities that rioted. That couldn't be further from the truth.
ETA - Honest question. Why do you continue to downplay what happened last week as if was just another normal protest. It literally wasn't a protest but an attempted coup. This is an EPIC level national crisis and I don't get the sense you understand the implications of what transpired.

I work in the city and I assure you - it hasn't "gone under." That is what the slanted media you absorb has led you to believe.

Glad to hear that but I have friends who usually come for the holidays and with restaurants closed to eating inside and what they see happening, they didn’t come this year. My child used to go in every other weekend and hasn’t gone in, in awhile. There is just not as much to do anymore like they used to.

Jan 6th was planned to be violent for weeks
I was just in the city today and the restaurants were lively with tons of outdoor seating and heaters, people chatting away and having fun. There so many blocks taking up room with booths that were created specifically for outdoor dining. A few restaurants had lines of people. Maybe try to encourage your friends to come.

In some ways, it's kind of a nice time to go, believe it or not. I feel like the staff appreciate it more than ever, too.
I know a lot of people were annoyed at the initial plans for seeing the big tree for Christmas and having to make reservations, but then people did it and said it was so much more enjoyable - no one else there, no one else in their family pictures, they were able to soak it all in more.
It's also nice to not be on top of people in restaurants in NYC right now, either. I always hated that - your elbow would be in the next table's pasta. You have more space now for your group.
A lot of museums are open, too.

True. I am sure it is not as bad as the news makes it out to be.

Understood but no one did a thing when cities were burning and people losing their businesses. None of that was important?
Is this a joke? Hundreds of people were arrested. There was tear gas constantly. People were beaten by the cops.
You don’t even know what you are talking about. What city? Who did nothing? How does any of that have to do with white supremacists disrupting democracy and trying to overthrow our government?
I think you should get off the internet and read a book.
You are not serious right? Our own city has gone under and people won’t come here as they are scared. Did you miss what went on this summer in cities all over? Not dismissing this week as it was horrible but we can’t just pick and choose horrible people and horrible acts to our country.
VB, why do you keep avoiding the topic of the President. Of. The. United. States. attempted to have a horde of domestic terrorists take over the US Capitol, and potentially hang politicians that they didn't like? That is treason to the highest degree. That isn't a "Republican vs Democrat" or "Conservative vs Liberal" difference of opinion. They attacked and killed police officers, attacked the Capitol during a fair election process, and attempted to take down our Democracy, at the delight of the potus.

Restaurants are following health guidelines due to coronavirus. That has nothing to do with protests. Your response doesn't even make sense.

I know what group you are referencing. They stated “we there there” in a photo they deleted. I know they’ve been reported to the FBI. They have terrorized areas of LI for months. Their leader has a sordid accusation which led to him being kicked off the police force…

My guess is she supports the Fascist attempt to overthrow Democracy, and has no issue with the potus committing treason. Lots of Republicans are denouncing trump and trying to figure out how to fix the Republican party. Not everyone, though...

You do a lot of guessing and assuming. Doesn’t hold any water at all.
