Jarred food or steam and blend at home?
Just curious how many are doing what...
AJ is 4 and half months old..
We got that Kidco thingy and we try to always blend up her own food. I hear its better for her but really its just cheaper for us.
Anyone else doing this?

I make a lot of DD's foods. I had made a whole bunch and had a lot frozen, but ran out and have been using jars until I get to the supermarket.

I made my own veggies and fruits. I was not very successful with meats, so I went to some Earth's Best when he was at that point. Now, at about 9 months he has a combo of homemade meals and Earth's Best jars.

I only really started using jarred once he went to school. It is just easier to make & pack, and DS school does not warm their meals.

I made all of DD's food. I don't know if it was cheaper because organic food is expensive but I liked knowing it was definately healthier and I was doing something good for her.

Re: Jarred food or steam and blend at home?
I make a lot of her food. I have this and love it:
Baeba Babycook @ Williams Sonoma
It's easy and cheaper and it's a great way to use those extra veggies and fruit before they go bad. It does take time, but I try to do it when I am in the kitchen anyway preparing dinner.
There are also some things veggies that I won't make myself - carrots and beets - because I am concerned about the nitrate levels and my inability to know if the level is high for the veggies I buy myself. Baby food companies contract with farmers in areas where the nitrates levels are known to be lower and they screen for nitrate levels. I just feel more comfortable buying those foods.

Re: Jarred food or steam and blend at home?
I make all of DS's food. It's not too difficult and it's cheaper for the most part. The only food that has not been cheap for me to make is organic apples, but everything else has been cost effective. And, it tastes better too!
I had DH do a blind taste test between Earth's Best Sweet Potato and the one I made. I won
I bought a cheap stainless steel steamer pot at BBB and use that along with my handstick blender. I've been freezing DS's food in ice cube trays and baby cube containers. So far it's worked out just fine and DS's daycare has not had had any problems feeding him.

I make Rylans food. I don't puree it anymore though...I leave it chunkier. I will probably not do to much more though since he can eat table food now.
