I've never heard that story before.
I saw it on a TLC special with them and they had her on their and she has a daughter. The husband isnt her father.
I think that is a different family, I saw the same program, but I can't remember the name of the family off the top of my head ....now I have to go find it....

Wow. personally I can never even imagine that. But if the children are loved then that is all that matters. But I do agree with a PP about how much of a life do the older children get when having to watch after the young ones.

It's amazing they have so many kids and live debt free. I agree that there is no way they are able to give those children the attention they deserve. It's like she can't just enjoy the newest memeber of the family without being pregnant again right away.

My aunt loves how happy & calm they seem. She wants them to adopt her! 
ETA-- I was just looking at their website. The FAQ & about us sections answer some of the questions posted here, such as why they have so many children & how do they cook all that food (the 17 & 18 year old girls cook & they all clean up)

Yes, I find it very sad. Very cultish if you ask me. Those poor children, they live in their DUGGAR bubble. I can see them rebelling when they finally have a chance to break away (like when the Amish kids leave their families to live a "normal" life).

I was watching one of the shows a year or two ago and the oldest boy was being interviewed. I think he was 16 or 17. They asked him if he had a girlffriend. He said no, he wasn't really interested in dating, that he wanted to find the right girl and get married.
I don't think they will ever get out of that "bubble," its the way they were raised. Maybe a couple of them will, but I think most of them will be content to live they way they grew up.

See? That's exactly my point. Their kids have no time to be KIDS. They're too busy taking care of a family their PARENTS keep expanding.
IMO that's just wrong... Even somewhat neglectful.

I agree. The last show or article said they have to sign up a MONTH in advance for 1:1 time with a parent. How is that fair? It seems like all the responsibility falls on the older kids.

I wouldn't exactly say Amish kids leave their families to live a "normal" life. To them their Amish lives are normal.
And for those who do leave, I still don't think they consider living the "English" way normal but rather they chose to live a more modern lifestyle.
They do partake in Rumspringa where when they turn 16 they are allowed to spend that year living with an "English" lifestyle.

On one hand, I dont' understand it.
But on the other hand- I think maybe it's a little brave to accept all the children God wants to bless you with!
And yes, they don't live a typical life style.. but I bet they spend more time with their children doing things than a lot of "normal" people do!

Its definitely going to be weird for her to not be pregnant. I was going to say to not be around an infant too, but her daughters will probably start having children soon enough.
Imagine how many grandchildren they will have?
Here's an explanation as to why they have so many kids:
Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar married July 21st, 1984. At that time, they chose to use the birth control pill. They thought, “We don’t want children right now. We can’t afford them. We want children in our timing, when we’re ready.” Four years later they decided to have their first child. Then, Michelle went back on the pill, but she conceived and had a miscarriage. At that point they talked with a Christian medical doctor and read the fine print in the contraceptives package. They found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry. They were grieved! They were Christians! They were pro-life! They realized that their selfish actions had taken the life of their child. They prayed and asked God to forgive them, and to teach them to love children like He loves children. They asked God to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing. Right after that Michelle got pregnant with twins!

Once you have that many kids what difference does another one make???
I try to live my life by not passing judgement on what other people do...
The kids seem happy and well adjusted...they are debt free...active in their community...the kids arent abused or ill treated...they are clothed, fed, educated, and most of all loved.
Who am I to question why they have so many kids?????
PS. This is coming from someone who has a ton of kids herself...
