This woman didn't wake up one day and was crazy and killed her children
She tried to commit suicide a few times prior to this
institutionalized
diagnosed NOT ONLY with PDD but with Major Depressive Disorder...
and yet...her and her DH STILL HAD ANOTHER CHILD AFTER
after knowing how unstable his wife was...
and she should be institutionalized

i WORK in a psychiatric facility
TRUST ME..it aint' no bed of roses by any means
You do not wake up one day and are ALL BETTER
there is no "fooling" anyone

I think she should be in jail.
she was a nurse before she had her kids - she should have known to go see a doctor.

I really don't have any interest in learning about her, but if she saw so many doctors, why did it ever get to this?

Guys, believe RED on this. IMO, jail is often a lot sweeter than an institution. While none of us are in her shoes and can't say if she is paying, let's just trust the fact her life will suck. And while her children don't have a life anymore, her life in an institution will be horrendous.

I don't believe jail is the answer. It makes me sick to my stomach to think that the oldest boy knew what was going on that day. I believe she was insane. I believe every day of her life, no matter in jail or an institution will be hell.
I do see your point, I don't think she should have the power to reproduce.

On June 16 1999, Andrea called Rusty and begged him to come home. He found her shaking involuntarily and chewing on her fingers. The next day, she was hospitalized after she tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of pills. She was transferred to the Methodist Hospital psychiatric unit and diagnosed with a major depressive disorder. The medical staff described Andrea as evasive in discussing her problems. However, on June 24 she was prescribed an antidepressant and released.

Rusty accepted work in Florida in 1996 and the family moved into a 38-foot travel trailer in Seminole, FL While in Florida, Andrea got pregnant, but miscarried. In 1997 they returned to Houston and lived in their trailer because Rusty wanted to "live light." The next year. Rusty decided to purchase a 350-square-foot, renovated bus which became their permanent home. Luke was born bringing the number of children to four. Living conditions were cramped and Andrea's insanity began to surface.

I totally believe that she belongs in an institution and not a jail. Obviously there is something seriously wrong with her, she would not have done that if she was thinking properly. I can't imagine what those poor children had to go through and I'm sure she is reliving it everyday. Those whole situation was so awful.

Once home, Andrea did not take the medication and as a result she began to self mutilate and refused to feed her children because she felt they were eating too much. She thought there were video cameras in the ceilings and said that the characters on television were talking to her and the children. She told Rusty about the hallucinations, yet neither of them informed Andrea's psychiatrist, Dr. Starbranch. On July 20, Andrea put a knife to her neck and begged her husband to let her die.

eta: she shouldn't be setrilized, but any child she may have should be taken away as soon as they are born!

oh, really? That's nice......see?!?!?!?! this is why I have no interest in reading about her!!! It gets me incensed!!!!! And yes, her husband is a real schmuck who should be castrated and thrown in a cell too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrea was again hospitalized and stayed in a catatonic state for 10 days. After being treated with an injection of different drugs that included Haldol, an anti-psychotic drug, her condition immediately improved. Rusty was optimistic about the drug therapy because Andrea appeared more like the person he first met. Dr. Starbranch warned the Yates that having another baby might bring on more episodes of psychotic behavior. Andrea was placed on out-patient care and prescribed Haldol.

That was my reaction to all of this. Forgive me, because I haven't done the research, but is he facing ANY charges at all?
At least child endangerment or negligance??
She may not have been able to control things, but he damn sure should have.

What about the doctors she saw? Do you think they are responsible for the children's deaths? Is anyone more at fault than the other?
Does anyone know why the state hasn't gone after the husband? He should be held responsible to some degree.
