Just got back from the ER with Ava...UPDATE
Tonight has been an awful night. I got home work around 5 and my cousin was here watching the baby. I gave Ava some oatmeal and pears and she ate, all the while as happy as could be.
About 10-15 minutes after I fed her, she was in the bouncy seat while I was making dinner and she started gasping for air like she couldn't breathe. I quickly picked her up and smacked her on the back and she was laughing, so I thought she was ok. I put her back down, then she started gasping again. So I freaked, I picked her up and she was still doing it and doing it. I did the heimlich incase she was choking, still doing it. So I called my mom because she was still breathing and my mom heard her in the background and started yelling CALL 911!!! So my cousin called 911 and the baby was still gasping and wheezing no matter what I did, but I could tell she was still breathing. Anyway, the paramedics got here and there was like 20 people in my apartment checking her out and luckily she was ok by then. Her lungs were clear, but she had a fever. So they called the doctor they deal with and he said she needed to go to the hospital to make sure she did not aspirate on anything. Well, they took us to Brookhaven hospital and all I can say is  I almost walked out and wish I had. The dr. looked at her, didn't even touch her and said, "Well, she looks fine. She has reflux, so that's probably what it was." And discharged her.
Needless to say, I'm still so freaked out because I do not know what happened to her. She hasn't done it since and is sleeping now, but how in hell am I supposed to relax when I don't even know what was wrong with her? I'm so upset I can't even describe how I feel right now.
UPDATE:
So, it seems to be that Ava is aspirating when she refluxes. Apparently there's not much we can do about it. Her lungs are clear, THANK GOD, and it doesn't seem to be bothering her all too much. It's happened again a few times today and it's still very scary, but the doctor said that if she's not turning blue and she is still breathing, then there's nothign we can do besides give her a whack on the back. Thanks for all the support girls. It was VERY scary, but I'm so glad she's ok.

 OMG! So scary... glad she is fine though. That is freaky though that you dont really know what that was. That Dr sounds like an ahole!! Glad she is ok though....

Rachel, many hugs to you for what I am sure was a scary experience...
I am sorry you had a bad ER time, I hope that perhaps a trip to your PED will help clarify things...

, keep her inclined tonight and bring her to her doc in the AM, if she does it again (god forbid) I;d go rigth to Stony Brook, or better yet, North Shore. You should not feel like you have no answers, or uneasy. If you are truly uneasy, wake her up and bring her back to an ER.

I am glad she is OK.
ETA: I agree , you should call your doctor and if it happens again and you can in time, I would bring her to a pediatric ER. I have had good experiences with Scheiders ER (LIJ)

ok first of all well i know i can't say anything bad about brookhaven on this site so i won't. but... you need to take her to have a chest xray. if she aspirated this can turn into pneumonia and she can get very sick. please follow up with your doc tomorow!

I am taking her to the ped. in the morning, but until then I'm going to be a wreck. JT had to go back to work and I am here by myself with her. I feel like I am just waiting for it to happen again.

Take a deep breath and honestly do whatever works for you to get calmly through the night...whether that means her sleeping with you or you two laying on the couch, whatever...no rules apply. The morning will be better, I promise

Oh man, I would have been freaking out too! I'd insist on a chest x-ray tomorrow. I'm sure tonight will be a sleepless night for you, but I'm glad she seems to be all better

What a SCARY experience for a mommy to go through  
Maybe you can bring her in to bed with you so you sleep better with her near you?
I hope you get answers tomorrow, Id be very annoyed at that Drs response too.
