Re: Just really getting fed up with names

I'm Elizabeth. Everyone but my family calls me Liz because that's what 'I', as a teenager and adult, wanted everyone to call me. No one has ever called me Beth, Betsy (my dad would sometimes say it when I was very young but very rarely), Libby (?), Betty, Liza, or Ellie. I sometimes refer to myself as Lizzie but only with DH when I'm trying to be cute.
I knew another Elizabeth and she did not, and still does not, want to be referred to as anything but Elizabeth.
My point is, you can give her any name you want. Once she's old enough, she's either going to use her full first name, or use a nickname. But you can always call her what you want.
THIS exactly , except Lizzie sort of caught on with me

I'm just worried about the pressure of waiting until that last minute to decide.
IMO, you should wait until the last minute to decide because once you meet her, I can promise you a name will fall right into place!
This...we played with a few names, but the second Emily(Emmy) was born we knew. She was born not breathing and the 1st words out of my mouth were go be with Emily. We just knew.
I like all the names you suggest, and I also feel like you that I don't like to popular of a name. I know Emily is popular, but it's not such a "fad" name. What about Isabelle? I know you like Isabella, but with a son named Robert, IMHO, you have a tween dream going on.
What do you mean I have a tween dream going on?
Isn't Bella a twilight name? If it is you would have a Bella and a Robert like Robert Patterson who is another Twilight star. I don't know it just makes me think you are a Twilight fan with those nicknames.

I wouldn't even worry about this with these two names. Isabella (Bella) is a star in the movie and Robert Pattison is the real life actor of the other main character. It's a push for me to even associate these now and I've seen all the movies/read the books. By the time your kids are tweens there will be new movies out and these characters won't make any difference. I think even if people now name their kids similar names to the movie characters like Isabella and Jacob or Edward while it might remind people the movie now, it won't in a few years. My point after all this blabbering is, if you like the name, go with it.

Re: Just really getting fed up with names
True I'm getting fed up with the BS ... Oh that name is so popular I can't use it.. She will be the 3rd Bella in her class .. my husband laughed ... I guess the kid will be scarred for life if that happened. Funny that people want their kid to stand out by the name they give them, yet worry about them fitting in ...

If you don't want to hear the reviews stop asking for opinions and don't share your names. I am not trying to mean but when you solicit advice and opinions you will hear things you don't want to (and often you hear plenty without asking which is why I say don't tell people your name choices).
TWO people need to love the name you and your husband.

I'm partial to Elizabeth since that's one of my choices if I ever have a girl. The 2 Elizabeths I know IRL are known as Liz so I'm not sure what 7 other nicknames you are referring to.
Honestly, don't kill yourself over it. When your DD is born you will know what to name her
Me personally I would either choose Elizabeth or sophia. But you and DH have to make the decision, not us. Good luck!
OK, maybe not 7 but 6: Beth, Betsy, Betty, Lizzie. Libby Liza
My Elisabeth is called Ellie so there is your 7th!
People will call your child what you call her. No one calls her Liz (I hate Liz) everyone calls her Ellie.
I actually know two Elizabeth/Elisabeth's who's nicknames are Lisa and Elsie so there's even more.
There's an Elizabeth in DS' daycare and they call her Elizabeth - DS is 2 1/2 so it sounds more like Elzabeth but, still!
If you want people to call your kid a certain name, they will. When your kid gets to grammar school though - kids may assign nicknames that stick... (my friend has a Benjamin who now goes by Ben since that's what his classmates called him).
All of the Sophias I know are Sophia. The only Sophies that I know were named Sophie.
ETA - In DS 2's infant class at daycare - there are 6 kids, 4 boys and 2 Isabellas.

Re: Just really getting fed up with names
Isabel is a family name in DH's family. There are 4 generations for it as the first name and 50% of the other girls in the family have it as a middle name. They all use the nickname Isa (eesa) just to give you an alternative nickname. I work in schools and I have yet to see it used as a nickname for the Isabel/lle/llas.
I do have a student that uses Gigi as a nickname for it.
That being said. DS#2 was given his nickname by our midwife in the delivery room. And with DD, I wanted an "old lady" /classic name. I convinced DH by pointing out to him a more modern nickname. Now he will only use her full name with her. He doesn't want any nicknames... you just never know - plus their friends will give them a nickname when they get to school.

They are all nice names. I would wait until your DD is born and once she's here you will know which name is for her!
