Just started the trio on milk and I have a few questions

HI I am hoping to get some answers or suggestions . I just started introducing milk with the formula today and by next week they will be completely off the formula but here is my question..... The PED want them to drink no more than 8-12 oz of milk a day so how do you mommies work that into your feeding schedules???

Here is their schedule now and if you ladies can help me adjust it I would be very grateful bc I am confused as to what to do bc they aren't eating any table food they HATE it..... TIA for your help

7am wake up and 7oz bottle
10am breakfast(jar fruit and oatmeal)
11:30 4 oz bottle
1:30 lunch jar of veggies and a meat or a thing of yogourt)
3:30 4 oz bottle
5:30 dinner(jar veggies and a meat)
8:00 6 oz bottle then bedtime

I wish I had some answers for you, Paula. We didn't start milk until Reilly was 1 year old. At that time, we just stopped her formula and replaced the bottles with milk, cold turkey. Is there a reason why the ped wants you to take the trips off formula at 10 months?

Mason just turned 1 and the Ped last night told us to start transitioning to milk. Not sure how it's gonna go so I have no advise.

I think I'm gonna do half and half. Hopefully it goes smooth Chat Icon

I think it is early to transition since they should be getting there nutrients from formula. If you are starting I would say try and replace your 4 oz bottles with milk. Keep the morning and night bottles with formula

He asked if I wanted to start saving some money and I said YES....Chat Icon Chat Icon The kids are healthy and good weights so the PED said we can start them on milk so of course I jumped right on that.....

All you really need to do is cut out the 2 4 oz bottles and replace them with sippies of water. That's what I did for DS and it worked perfectly. Once he was on only milk, then I started the transition to giving up bottles (which is another post entirely Chat Icon)

They are already on 3 meals a day, just give water with lunch and dinner and you're all set! Chat Icon

We went cold turkey from formula to whole milk. I gave him one bottle of purely whole milk out of curiosity to see what would happen, and he didn't care or really notice anything different. If he wanted anything beyond 16-18 oz of whole milk, we replaced it with water. Good luck!

Wait, why so little? My ped was with yours - DS1 was 10 mos old when we switched to milk. At that age most of their nutrients should be coming from a balanced diet rather than the formula. However, he was getting four 6oz cups of milk every day (I just replaced the formula with milk and gave him more water throughout the day if he was thirsty). 10-12oz seems too little to me Chat Icon

ETA: for the transition we replaced 1 bottle with a cup of milk every few days. By the time we got to three we just switched all four. Was a breeze. Best advice my ped gave was to never give the milk in a bottle - milk in a cup and you kill 2 birds with one stone.

Ok, I just had a mini heart attack but there is NO WAY they are almost 1 YO. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I mixed formula and milk together in one bottle to introduce the milk slowly. I gradually adjusted it until it was 100% milk.

I would use the 11:30 bottle and add the milk then. Also, my son is STILL picky about table food. Chat Icon Chat Icon Keep up the routine with the pureed baby food and keep trying new table foods.

The will be 1 July 31 and I still cant believe how fast time is going.....The Ped told me to add 1 oz of milk to every bottle the first day then increase it everyday until its all milk.....My one DD will eat pretty much anything but DS is so picky I want to strangle him. I know it will take time but everything will work out if not he will be eating pureed for for a long time.....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
