Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
A co-worker told me about a book she used when conceiving both of her kids because she was hoping for certain genders. I read reviews for the book & it's worked out for many parents as they had hoped regarding their baby's gender. I'm feeling a little selfish because I'm considering buying the book before we conceive #2, our last baby.
I don't know what I'm looking for here. I guess I just want to know if any of you would try to do certain things to sway the gender one way or another? Or do you think it's best not to mess with what's suppossed to happen. I'm not supersticious but this is becoming something I can't stop thinking about.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I look at those "methods" of getting a girl vs a boy this way- they have a 50% chance of working!
Just like Intelligender has a 50% chance of telling you correctly if it's a boy or girl when you pee in it!
But to get back to your question...I think if I could, I might. I know how much my DH wanted a boy and I would have liked to have given him one. But on the other hand, I really wanted a girl too. So if we were going to have 2 kids- I think guaranteeing one of each woudl have been a perfect compromise!

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I also looked into those methods before I had DS1 and if I remember correctly the percentage WAS higher than 50/50 but not by a TON- maybe it was in the mid 60s.
We did do boy swaying shettles for DS but did not do any method for now on the way DS2. I *thought* I wanted a girl to have one of each but I guess not "enough" to try and sway (also the girl sway can take a lot longer b/c you're not really dtd at the correct/ most advantageous time). Now I think I love the idea of two boys MORE THAN how much I thought I would have liked one of each- so meh for me.
So to answer the original question I guess if there was a way to definitively choose I would have chosen a boy then a girl but like I said with hindsight I love the idea of the two boys which I guess I would never have known if we got to "just choose".

No. We have two girls and if we ever went for #3, we'd be happy with whatever we got.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I think if you are using methods (and Im totally making these up because I have no idea what they would be) like drinking more orange juice before or at a certain time of day to try to concieve a certain sex, I think it is fine.
I think when it gets into taking medical intervention, I think it is wrong. It is just messing with nature too much.

I would... but I got lucky... we think we are going to have a girl next.
I really wanted , DH really wanted a ... if we have another, I really don't care what it would be.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
Thankfully I got exactly what I always wanted two girls and a boy- but I would have been absolutely happy with whatever I got. But to answer your question, YES I would have chosen the sex if I could.
I think you're talking about the Shettles method. It's worked for 3 friends of mine. I didn't try it because scheduling sex using OPKs was hard enough for me.
Rather than buy the book, google Shettles method and you'll likely get all the info you need.
BTW- just because you want to choose the sex of your baby does NOT mean you wouldn't be happy if you got the other sex. I HATE when people imply that.

We won't be trying anything different to try for one sex over the other (at least I won't...not sure if DH has been reading up on anything ). But honestly even if I could choose, I don't think I would...although it would be nice

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I wouldn't do anything as far as medical intervention but all the methods you read online or in books I will try. I have 2 DS and would love a DD. However I did see a psychic a years ago (after I had my first DS) and he told me that he saw 3 sons in my life. So far he was right lol.

this!
even though I am dying to have a girl, i would not go so far as to use medical intervention. Natural things that were not hazardous/ to much hassle, why not.
and even saying all this, when we start TTC this month, I know I won't do anything to sway the gender. (other that praying and wishing really hard! )

You're right, I would never be unhappy if it's the other sex. I would LOVE 3 kids but since it's #2 & my last, I'm thinking that I would love a girl BUT I don't want to cheat DS from having a little bro.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
DH and I left the first one to chance and had a boy, but for the second we'll try to sway so it's a girl...
My sister swears by the shettles method and used to to have her boy and girl... my other 2 sisters didn't bother and ended up each having 3 girls and 3 boys.
I see nothing wrong with gender selecting if you're just trying to balance out the family as long as you dont have to pay $$ to do it, or take medications...

I'm not sure if the book describes the shettles method but the book is called How To Choose The Sex Of Your Baby & I just ordered it - don't know if I will use it or not though.

Yes it's the Shettles method, the author's name is Landrum Shettles. :)
Good luck!

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I think I would only because DH is the last in his family with his last name. Because we have 2 girls his name will not be carried on. If we actually planned for #2 I might have tried to conceive a boy.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I used to want one of each but now with all this boy clothing sitting around in bins I think I'd prefer to only have boys.
As for picking, not a fan of messing with nature. Do we want to end up like India where some areas see for every 100 girls there are 130 men?

I agree. If I were going to have another I'd be reading every book and employing every method out there to have a boy. If I failed, oh well, but it wouldn't be for the lack of trying!

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
If there were a way sure I'd try it...I have 1 DD and would LOVE her to have a sister so I'd want another girl if I could. I'd of course still love a boy just as much...I just would really love DD to have a sister and I think we will only have 2 kids. But like someone said - there's only a 50% chance so I'd never really get my hopes up or anything.

Re: Just wondering if you could choose the gender of your baby, would you?
I did use WebMd's try for a girl & try for a boy. It happened to work for me. I'm not sure I'd attribute it to the site.
There is some science to it which I think slightly skews a 50/50 as to help X or Y chromosome containg sperm get fertilize the egg first.
But if your DH doesn't have Ys & has an overabundance of Xs, you're having a girl & vice versa.
To answer the question, I wouldn't select gender as in go through IVF & choose boy or girl. I would read a book on it & give it a shot (ack pun...)
